Olá Doug and Monique! Yes we too downsized from the US and moved to São Miguel Azores. And like you we were a prisoner to our view. So we sold our home in the country moved to the city to a bigger place with amazing views and walkable to everything we need!

Now I live for 3 years in Coimbra, with nightmarish interruptions in Argentina every year. I invested 60+ years of my life there until becoming a widower in 2017. In 2025 there will be a new Continente in São Vicente, so I’ll try to take a look at São Vicente combining it with the New Year fireworks in Funchal, which is a little too hot for me in summer!!

Watching your video I already thought you'll leave the island and I was a bit sad, but nice that you stay there and only change the place. I was in Madeira the last time in May and I miss the island vibs, but unfortunately my project there needs more time than expected and so I had no real reason to return. But I promise, I'll find one somewhere in February or March to return. And maybe we could meet up. Until then, all the best, Merry Christmas and a happy New Year 2025!

We did our first trip to Europe to see where we want to retire, we started in Madrid, then Lisboa and final Milan. We saw that Madrid is not a city for family or small children. Milan was fine and we like the most Lisbon. My wife is Brazilian and we speak Portuguese with different accent. I need to visit more cities to make a decision or take longer vacations in one or more cities.
