Speeding up fat loss as we get a bit older. For some the idea of being over 30 means fat loss starts to become an issue. Being over 40 myself I have certainly experienced weight gain that I was not happy about. I had to examine what was happening during this time.

For me getting more body fat than i wanted was the direct result of changes in work stress, lifestyle and the belief I was eating well. The issue is often that fat gain is so slow that we don't realize it until it's already too late.

Walking for fat loss, even as we age can be magical. Lets' talk about our history and of nutrition, diet and why we gain body fat.

How to lose body fat in your 30's and 40's.

Fit over 30, fit over 40.

I’m sold on the walking routine. I’m walking 4-6 miles every day early. If you stay consistent the fat will come off. Be patient and stay consistent.

A lot of truth in here. I work out 7 days a week and it makes people uncomfortable. They want me to be lazy because they are lazy. Peer pressure to not be your best is all around us.

I have just got into walking after work for an hour to 1hr 30 mins. I agree 100% with Paul. Its hard to not run but walking is the way forward. U have much more energy throughout the day as well when you don't run. Cheers Paul.

Your so right about the social pressure. A couple of months ago I gave up booze, crisps (potato chips), all sweets and started walking daily and calorie counting. Yesterday I had to make an excuse to a friend why I couldn't attend a meal at an Indian restaurant next weekend. UK Indian restaurant food is ridiculously calorific and I know that there will be all kinds of pressure to drink too. Alcohol is the only drug where people ask if you're OK if you DON'T take it! Once I've hit my goals I may allow myself to have these odd treats now and again but for now I know it will just cause a setback I don't want.

All so true! Standard american life and diet is what’s causing us harm. We need to take a good look at ourselves and accept that we NEED to move and walk and stay mobile.

My husband and I recently started a caloric deficit diet and we started training at the gym. I've lost over 80 lbs of body fat and I've gained muscle. My husband has lost over 50 lbs of body fat and has gained muscle as well. We had never done this ever before so the fat loss was drastic! Recently my mother-in-law complained my husband is looking to thin from his face and that he looks malnourished. He eats really well but I do see what she is saying. He used to have a full face. He entrusted in me that at work his coworkers have asked him if he is sick because he lost so much weight so fast. We've been on this journey together since 09/2022. I started in 07/2022. I've been thinking that perhaps he is consuming too little calories? He compliments me a lot on my muscle gain and even though he's gained muscle he looks smaller than me. I am 5'7, I started this journey at 277lbs, he is 5'6, and he started at 215 lbs or 220 lbs. I have tried encouraging him to increase his calories but he's scared of gaining weights since he has lost so much body fat. But I would think that at this point his muscle gain would've been more. We could use some guidance. I have a personal trainer so I pay for this type of help. We cannot afford to add him to the training so we've only gone through the example my trainer gave me. We did use a website online to calculate his calories and macros. I used ur website to see what his calories should be and they are extremely higher than the calories he is consuming now. We both still have belly fat we want to lose but he definitely wants to get bigger muscle wise. I want to gain more muscle too especially in my legs and bum. My trainer is monitoring me closely. Could use some guidance for my husband. Help!

48 years young here. I had lost weight before, kept it off for a good while. It slowly came back and then covid hit. I ballooned up nicely 🤦‍♂. I was determined to get back to the way was. I was 390 and when the gyms opened back up to normal here in California in June 2021. I weighted in at 205 this past Saturday. I definitely felt old when I was bigger, I feel 25 again. Calorie deficit was the key for me.

Running (jogging) is a great way to support orthopedic surgeons and such.

I was hospitalized with severe sleep apnea, congestive heart failure and diabetes on February 14th of this year, I weighed 433 lbs. This morning I weighed 329.4 lbs. For 2 months I was stuck at home on oxygen therapy, only able to walk around my apartment 5 minutes at a time. I’m still only walking 20 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes after meals. I eat only whole foods and optimal supplements. Sleep is paramount, first thing to do is to get a sleep study…

There’s so 100% truth at 4:45-5:00 min mark .

I’m 48 and have been doing everything you have told me to do since Jan 3, 2023. Getting good results so far. Started at 5’10” 186 with a 38” waist. This morning 164 with a 32” waist.

When I was in my 20’s trying to do this part of my issue was outside influence like you said.
Since Jan only 3 people know I’m even doing this and it’s so much better psychologically this time around because of it

I was having trouble losing weight myself (6ft, 39 year old lacrosse player) and your advice about walking got me curious. I decided to stop running and start walking, along with tracking a 500cal per day deficit and generally healthy eating with high protein and no refined carbs or sugar. I was 243lbs and now I'm on track to hit 220lbs (my goal to continue playing lacrosse, but I won't stop there) next week, so thanks for the advice! It is changing my life for the better.

Spot on. I once gained weight during the peak month of training for a full marathon - running 50 miles a week - because I threw dietary caution to the wind in the name of "fueling my workouts." Whereas I had no trouble losing weight when I was diligently tracking my calories in the months before that. There's no magic to it, just boring consistency.

My maintenance calories are around 2850 cals/day. I eat 1600 cals/day during the week and eat at maintenance on the weekends. The weight is coming off at a nice steady pace and I feel fine dieting this way. It may not be recommended, but it works for me.
