Wow, this has to be the greatest iPad vs MacBook comparison I have seen. To the point, no fillers, calm and insightful. Keep it up!

A tablet is used for portability and mobility. Using it while walking or standing up. It's not a replacement to me. I did not buy a magic keyboard. It is what it is, a tablet. A tablet compliments a computer. A tablet is a a notebook. If anybody has watched Star Trek, those tablets doesn't replace the computer.

My M1 11 inch iPad replaced my MacBook Pro, the moment they sorted out external display support. Much lighter, adequate battery life, helps me focus more and easy to work with when "on the go"! Enjoyed the video, thank you 🙏.

I like that the iPad cannot do the things that you said it cannot do

The most mind-boggling thing is right now you can get a MacBook Pro 14, M3 Pro, 18GB RAM, 18-core GPU, 1TB SSD for $2099 at Best Buy. The iPad Pro 13 M4, 1TB is $1899. Add the keyboard and Pencil and it’s $2377. That’s insane.

Our company developed a custom iPad app for a medium-sized real estate firm. This app allows their staff to perform various tasks in the field, such as uploading property pictures, editing the inventory database, scanning and marking-up documents, and conducting video tours and conferences using the front and rear cameras simultaneously. Additionally, they can use the iPad to watch videos or television shows, such as ESPN, while waiting for clients. (shhhh!🤫) We recently implemented augmented reality (AR) functionality, which will allow the staff to do virtual staging based on the potential buyers’ style or corporate branding theme. We also use LiDAR technology to automatically update and measure the floor plan. The staff considers the iPad the most powerful computer they’ve ever used because it significantly improves their professional workflow with a device and form factor that surpasses traditional mobile laptops.

I understand that my continuous effort to share my point of view as a B2B app developer may seem pointless, but I believe it's crucial to remind people on comment threads that many industries rely on iPad Pro as a computer and do not consider it a limited device. It's important to understand that it's a tablet computer and not a less capable version of a laptop.

My iPad Air 5 with the Magic Keyboard couldn’t run a simple page of my defensive driving course but my MacBook ran it with flying colors?!
(Not too mention my brothers $200 laptop ran it smoothly as well)

It’s the small things like that which make me fall back on ever using my iPad as an absolute full laptop replacement.

Nicely explained and was comprehensive.

I use both an MB Pro and an iPad Pro as complementary devices. They are the best of both worlds.

If I had to choose one, it would be the iPad, which does everything I need. Setting up the workflows I use took a while, but with time and experience, everything worked out well.

I understand that some people cannot use an iPad, for example, for coding, but just as many workflows can be done on an iPad that cannot on a Mac. So, I would recommend both, as there will be a few reasons to complain.

Answer is pretty straightforward… unless you hand write or draw… DO NOT BUY THE iPad Pro… if you want a reading device or to consume media every now and then… an iPad Air 11’ is good enough

Very true and I agree but like you I was more of a desktop guy so I am with those Macbooks and just recently had some iPads and was truly impressed by how simple and portable to work on.

I believe you can make calls and record for podcasting at the same time as it’s also capturing your voice for recording the podcast. You just have to use apps like riverside fm.

This video is so timely. My MacBook is crashing about 9 years old and my iPad is slowly dying too. I have an appointment at the Genius Bar real soon. This was the question I had. Not sure which one to invest in. Because I travel so much for work and it’s lighter, I may lean towards buying an ipad. Hoping to find a good one for a good price.
TY ! Very useful video and concise !

Honest question: I hear the “you can’t play two videos at the same time on the iPad” a lot when comparing the two. In what situation would you want to see/hear two videos at once?

I think I could drop MacOS for iPad if it had Time Machine backups straight to external storage. I don’t trust iCloud for my 600gb of photos. That’s pretty much the only thing keeping me buying Macs at this point

You can at least two programs ata time

The connections to other devices is simpler than the same process on Mac

Opening statement is stupid. The Mac is easier to use than a PC if you’re already a Mac user.

LIke you i own way too many apple parts but i do want to add some points. Many who are willing to buy expensive versions of ipads will own both a ipad and a macbook. But the biggest thing for me is you can take 'part' of the ipad with you. When on photo trips i either leave the keyboard at home or on longer trips in the hotel. This gives me a 600grams vs 1200grams option and for first phase work in my case photo or video its getting better and better. Again i have way too much apple stuff but if i would advice someone who wants 'both' i think with the new keyboard being so close i think a in 2024 having a 13" ipad with keyboard controlling a mac mini when at home using handoff for keyboard and trackpad would be great. Go wild add 3 monitors to a desktop hide the mac mini below the desk ... walk up with the ipad 13"+keyboard place it down and go with 3 screens + ipad with a 4 monitor setup.
