This is terrible advice.

The ram is non upgradable, so if you dont buy enough or limit yourself to the base model you might be in trouble a year or two down the line.

Storage you can always use the cloud and external hds but ram you are kind of stuck. But storage can be a pain too, see everyone with a base mode iphone to see how that goes.

I recommend going at least 16gb for future proofing unless you think the extra $ is worth buying a new laptop 2 years early.

This isnt terrible advice to the majority of users. Not everyone is using the heaviest hitting video and photo editing softwares, and so extra ram isn’t needed for most people. If you’re an average college student (which is the majority of macbook users), the base models is more than enough. Dont waste your money.

Unfortunaly, there aren't such big sales in other countries like Germany. While a MacBook Air 13 M1 costs 750$ or a Air 15 M2 999$, in Germany they cost 900€ (in $: 980) and 1350€ (in $: 1460).
Same for Zenbook 14s or other good laptops

main issue with these tips is that for creatives we often have to upgrade to get the power we need for our workflows, so while this is great for the average consumer, just know on the creative side of things it may not cut it.

I got an open box (excellent new) MacBook Pro 14 18gb ram 512ssd from Bestbuy for $1600. The new one was $1700 and on sale from the original price that was $2000. And I haven’t owned my own laptop for 10 years (college) since I had a desktop, but decided it’ll be nice to have one now since I move around the house a lot. Worth the upgrade/ splurge since my last laptop was a 2012 MacBook.

Best buy is NOT a reputable reseller!
I ordered a M3 max 36gb/1tb and received an M3 pro 16gb/512gb in the box. When I contacted them, all they said was, 'it was an open box item so we can't do anything for you'?!?!
This is a classic case of false advertising/bait and switch. All they had to do was send the correct model, which they refused to do.
If you've ever had this happen to you, leave a comment. I am considering filing a class action lawsuit, although I don't need to because they're already guilty of deceptive advertising. Why would a company that's on the verge of becoming obsolete, want to risk the few customers that they barely have?!?!

I was able to buy a MacBook Air M2 with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage at Best Buy. All for $975 without Apple Care. That can be bought afterwards

I am grateful for this advice (which was given in the full youtube video few weeks back). I bought latest 16" M3 Max 48GB base model (retail @$4000) from BestBuy (open-box excellent) at $3400, saving me a whooping $600 which covered my AppleCare+ and then I saved some.
