Today, we sit down with Mike Gendron, a former Catholic who discovered the truth in the Bible and left the Catholic Church after 35 years. As the founder of Proclaiming the Gospel ministry, Mike has developed numerous resources to equip and encourage Christians to be effective witnesses to Roman Catholics. In this episode, Mike shares his deeply personal journey, revealing how reading the scriptures opened his eyes to the significant differences between Catholic doctrine and biblical truth. We dive into some highly controversial topics, such as: Was Mary truly a virgin her entire life? What does it take for a Catholic to get into heaven? Does even the pope make it into heaven? Whether you're Catholic, Protestant, or simply curious about these beliefs, this episode offers insightful perspectives on faith, tradition, and the pursuit of truth.

These comments did not disappoint! As a Catholic convert I can tell you that my experience is nothing at all like what he’s talking about. He was obviously very poorly catechized. I read the Bible almost every day and we read/ hear the Bible at every single mass. If he didn’t read the Bible until he was 35 that’s his own fault. Trent Horn should definitely do a response to this!

Not sure what kind of Catholic this guy was but if he didn't pick up a Bible until he was 35 years now wonder he left the faith. If he didn't know the Bible there is no way he knew or understood Catholic teaching. The two go together. You can't separate the Bible from the Catholic Church. I feel sad from him.

As a former evangelical, I can say that the Catholic Church has given me an intimate relationship with Jesus and so much clarity and confidence as a Christian.

Why not interview Scott Hahn, the highly intellectual protestant who in search for the truth found his way home to the Catholic Church.

Allie, I encourage you to speak with Scott Hahn. He was a Protestant minister who set out to challenge Catholicism but ended up embracing it after discovering the truth.

As a Roman Catholic for 60 years, I have a relationship with Jesus Christ, always have.

People like Mike Gendron played a role in leading me to the Catholic Church. I read lots of protestant criticisms of Catholicism, and was amazed at how many (not all, but many like Mike) just blatantly strawman.

I’m a stronger Catholic after reading my Bible. Praise Be to God and thankful for Fr. Mike Schmitz and his Bible in a Year podcast! Also - thankful for the parish I attend at which our pastor told our young adult group “If you’re not reading scripture every day, start.” Deus Volt!

You seriously had this guy on? He has no credentials, slanders the Catholic Church with falsities, and turns off comments to his YouTube videos

Why bring an ex-Catholic to discuss Catholicism? He clearly was poorly catechized. You should bring more Catholics to explain Catholicism and debate/discuss with them on these points.

I laugh when people say Catholics don’t read their Bible or we don’t have a relationship with God. I wish y’all would meet my husband. That man is soooo close to God, knows scripture and is truly a man of God. Many Catholics are like this. It would be great if former Catholics can stop projecting their shortcomings on all Catholics.

I am so sorry he misunderstood his Catholic faith. Prayers he will study it again with the openness he had when converting.
The problem with Bible alone “churches” is anyone can find a “church” to fit their theology. But as a protestant who finally surrendered my knowledge to Christ and His church I came to see 1st the misunderstandings and then the FULL TRUTH within His church and came home to the Catholic church🙏 God bless you both and may God grant you grace to keep seeking truth.
It IS by Grace we have been saved, not of our own doing! He then grants us grace through the sacraments to battle this world and flesh!

It was interesting, but extremely disappointing, to hear someone that isn't a practicing Catholic tell me, incorrectly, what I believe. Not what he "believes" I believe, but stating that what he said is actually what I believe. I pray this podcast will challenge itself to do hard things and provide both points of view. Invite a protestant that is now Catholic or one of our amazing priests that could explain to you exactly what we believe. I am a Baptist preacher's daughter who converted to Catholicism, and I don't doubt for a minute that I am going to the same heaven that my father taught me about all my life, and my relationship with Jesus Christ continue to grow daily through studying God's word, like we just did last night in Bible study.

Converting to the Catholic Church with my husband was the best thing that ever happened in my 60 year faith journey. We read, meditate on and pray the Scriptures daily. I’ll pass on listening to this episode after perusing the comments.

I’m Protestant and I can tell you just in the first 15 minutes he has misrepresented the Catholic Church several times

Allie this man is a joke. There are very intelligent answers to these questions. He doesn't even give straw man arguments for the Catholic position, he is just lying and misleading people. Allie you are better and more charitable than this.

Former Presbyterian here. Ive never felt more close to Jesus than after ive become catholic. People really need to educate themselves about what the church teaches before criticizing it. Im home now and I'm never looking back.

The priest does NOT resacrifice Christ. This is a misunderstanding of the Eucharist. Christ's sacrifice is an a-temporal event. This is why Revelation states He was sacrificed "at the foundation of the world"

I don’t understand why someone who doesn’t understand the Catholic Faith and Church teaching is being interviewed to speak on it. This episode was truly disappointing to say the least. I’m so proud of my Faith and immensely grateful to be baptized in the Church founded by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

So who made the #1 Bible in a Year podcast? Oh yes, a Catholic priest. Who preserved the Bible? Oh yes, Catholic monks.
