I was a heavy drinker for almost 45 years, 13 Captain Morgans at the bar or a half a handle jug at home. I was able to function at work so no one ever went hungry. It did however cost me 3 marriages. One day out of the blue I woke up feeling like crap just like most every other day, and I said out loud that I am tired of feeling like this in the morning. I didn't join any program I just quit cold turkey that day and now it will be 5 years on May 6th since I have had any alcohol. After testing my liver and kidney function, by some miracle they were normal. Don't be afraid to take that first step. If you need outside help, get it.

As a person who drank through my 20’s I’m so amazed how my body regenerated itself after I quit drinking. My skin got better, my stomach is completely flat now. Everything just feels so much better.

I'm a 40yr old musician, I've been binge drinking for 22 years, I'm always around free alcohol, it's so bloody hard to quit, I'm 8 days sober now and played my first sober gig ever just two days ago, I've literally played 1000 gigs in 17 years. I know it will get better but let me tell you... weddings suck without booze as does gigging. I hope I can remain sober, alcohol has kept me in neutral for years, it has destroyed friendships, relationships, family moments, wealth, health and opportunities, we only truly change when we want to, this is hard but I am determined, I think we can all turn the tide on this horrible mindset we've been conditioned into thinking is the normal. Stay strong people, we are loved by many around us even though we don't love ourselves.

I had stomach problems for 30 years and was taking so much medication to calm it down, after stopping drinking 18 months ago I don't take a single tablet it was all alcohol making me unwell.

I’ve been stone cold sober for close to 7 months, and I can attest to the focus recovery. It’s absolutely true that alcohol inhibits memory and focus and quitting it reveals this within a very short period of time.

Two months sober here.
I got a new job in another city.
So for me it's a chance to meet new people and have them never meet my drunken persona.
Harder than stop drinking is having to explain everybody you met (maybe through drinking) that you don't drink anymore

After 1 week is the best feeling. You will wake up with a smile on your face. But after the second week is when the craving of alcohol will start affecting your mood. Fight through the second week and you should be good!

I already recently decided to quit cold turkey before seeing your videos. I am taking it as a sign from God that I'm on the right track since seeing your channel. The additional information and motivation certainly helps.

I was a heavy drinker for 53 years and I just got fed up with all the bs in my life and quit. I felt like I was drinking my life away but now I’m happy.

You can't fix in 30-90 days what you've been doing for years. You must be patient. I completely turned my life around getting sober, but I had to check myself into a program that included sober living housing. It worked and I'm feeling better than ever. I competed as a body builder in my 20's, got my pilot's license, was a successful musician, had a wife who loved me and had three beautiful kids. Alcohol took all that away, but it was gradual. Alcohol by its nature is insidious. It will steal from you like a professional thief. You don't always notice it because you can sometimes become a "functioning" alcoholic, but results eventually become as bad as lying in a gutter somewhere, only its emotional and tragic in that you don't see it, but others do and you dismiss their observations as over wrought and negative. I finally reached that all important point of "rock bottom." And through the support of some really fine people, I turned everything from bad to glad. Getting sober, doesn't mean everything will be perfect from here on out, but it does mean one can be in a better position to accept and live within the confines of reality. It did indeed take months to get my body and mind in synch to once again live in the moments life gives us, but I don't like to think about the alternatives. I don't have to anymore. Life is a gift and I now appreciate it as such. Life is not a problem to be solved, it's a reality to be experienced, (Kierkegaard), (sic). Don't give up! You can manage this (I don't like the phrase, "beat this). If I can you can! I'm serious. You should have seen the shambles I made of my life. You think differently when you're sober. You accumulate hope, which turns into faith, which becomes how you decide to live from here on out. I implore those of you struggling, don't give up, don't give in; fight back back! If there's one thing worth fighting for in this sometimes hostile world we're all in; it's YOU! You're worth every bit of effort you put into yourself. Why? Because you're meant to be here and it's not always just for you; maybe your destination in life is to help others. You owe it to yourself to help others because in doing so you heal yourself. That's your worth. You might not even know who you're helping; you might not even know you're helping yourself in the process. We have to let our egos go, and demonstrate to ourselves that we're as valuable as those we care about. Addiction is never about the substance as much as it is about trauma. And that's a whole other issue! Goodnight my friends!🤗
