I'm Catholic myself but this is just seems strange. Ciuldnt they have just buried them in a dignified manner? O dont know what the monk's intentions were but people's bones being used for architecture does not seem dignified to me.

To those who DO NOT UNDERSTAND. I assume it’s part of the “momento mori” statement, or “remember your death” we should not fear death but instead, remember that we “believe in the resurrection of the body and life everlasting”, rather than being dumbfounded by it, it should serve as a reminder to count our days and live for GOD as ecclesiasties said. And as St.Paul said, “to die is gain” it’s important to remember that death is not our final destination but rather eternal life in CHRIST our LORD.

It reminds us also to pray for the dead in purgatory. There is a reason for the monk to display the bones to remind us that we will all die someday.

That's metal. I would love to visit one day.

How does this work with the rule that bodies must be buried? A monk making art out of human skeletons seems to be the opposite of what the Catholic Church teaches.

If this was any other belief system, everyone would be claiming that this is Satanic!

I want to go there. Memento Mori <3 I love the Holy souls in purgatory, and the Communion of Saints <3 It's a beautiful church.

I'd love to be "buried" like that; no higher (and unmerited, btw) dignity than becoming a literal column or a volta of the house of God, spiritually holding it while living, spiritually AND physically holding it when I'm dead.

Love it!

I've been to this church. It's in Kutna Hora. It's not very big. Barely the size of small convenience store. I can walk from the entrance to the altar in about twenty steps and across the entire church in no more than a dozen steps. The surrounding cemetery of the church has a dense congregation of bodies buried in it and can easily be walked through in less than ten minutes.

I've been there, it's pretty hard-core. Like you are very aware you will die and be dead for much larger than you will ever be alive.

We should not fear death, we should not fear the sight of bones

Ah yes I remember when I first learned of memento mori. Many catholics have a lot to grow in learning the faith.

Church is a small but essential part of the whole thing. And you won't get a full appreciation unless you travel to the vatican, read books and talk to interesting priests.

And even then there is so much more with the works of saints. The prophetic tradition ect.
