Acute recruitment crisis: Great Britain is missing a million workers - Outside Views

The unemployment rate is falling in the UK, now about as many people are back in employment as before the pandemic. At first glance, the economic data is correct. But another number worries experts - and could slow the recovery.

Brexit happened on January 31st 2020 when the United Kingdom formally left the institutions of the European Union. And I give you some outside views on it.

Reading the British press you'd think they were getting swamped with workers coming over by the boat load.

Priti Patel's parents came to UK in the 1970's when Idi Amin kicked them out of Uganda. Ironically she would not be in the position of opposition to free movement were it not for free movement providing her with the platform to do so.

The message was sent out loud and clear to EU countries that they were not welcome. I was reading comments on a brexiteer’s site, one said they can come back to pick the crops but then leave, how nice is that. Most of them found jobs elsewhere. This is Brexit. This is what they voted for. Brexit can’t be undone.

Coincidentally, the Office of National Statistics reports that, for the year ending December 2020, one million EU nationals departed the UK...hmm
Vielen Dank!

I wonder how many Brits are finding it more convenient to leave Britain and go to the EU to live and work.

Drove past a large building site today and saw a sign outside saying 'All trades needed'. First I've ever seen. Wages will be on the rise, as will inflation.

Inflation... inflation...We will choose the highest paid jobs then.
Six millions Europeans skilled workers and their families in UK are fit to it.Good luck to the customers from our future exjobs, the new customers must pay more. Survival of the strongest in Breshit.

*THIS IS AN ISSUE NO ONE THOUGHT ABOUT...!* My neighbours came back from the UK to Bulgaria, they have all gone again, France, Germany Italy...

A NEW BENEFIT THEY HAVE - they can buy a 2nd hand car in Germany / France and drive it home, sell it and make a profit. So if they come home every 3 months for a couple of weeks that's 4 cars a year at say €1000 or €2000 profit ONTOP of the better-paid job. They could NOT do that when working in the UK. So they are up maybe €8000 a year

The employment statistics are always distorted to make it appear there are far fewer real unemployed / underemployed.

I don't know why everybody is angry and complaining about the worker's shortage. They voted for it and now they have to live with it. It's annoying but you get what you voted for. Next time think before you put the ❌ in the wrong

Today I have had to go to 4 different petrol stations in order to fill up, and then only the “supreme” grade was available.... Coincidence?
