He was Austrian citizen and they declared war to Serbia. When an Italian citizen killed Austrian Queen, wife of Austrian imperior, some 20 years before, they did not declare war to Italy.

Only a fool think he started a world war. They literally just waited for the excuse to start it and attack Serbia. They planned it much before assassination. WW1 started only and only because of Vienna's imperialism. Fun fact. Massive Austro-Hungary's army was defeated by Serbs in all of their 3 offensives and they literally went home. They came back only after Germany and Bulgaria entered the war on their side.

My great great grandmother was a daughter of one of Austrian administrators of Bosnia. After Serbia won the ww1, my grandpa married her, her family accepted it because he was a high rank officer in Kingdom of Serbia/Yugoslavia army.. But the interesting story about all of this is that thanks to her Austrian roots my family stayed alive, on beginning of the WW2 she got informed that nazi croatians (ustaša) with bosnian muslim collaborators are going to slaughter every Serb in the city, they took their children and left their home, they went to Serbia and as after the war was over my great great grandpa went back to his hometown to visit his house and his friends, but non of them left.. All Serbs disappeared, they were slaughtered and thrown into deep pits and his Muslim friends - some of them were dead, some of them alive but couldn't look in his eyes again... I was raised by my great grandma, I still have pictures of her father in white uniform of King's guard and picture with his muslim friends hugging and smiling. What Nazis did was horrible, check out the movie: Dara from Jasenovac
