Healthy Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting:

DATA:

Did you realize that nuts are not actually a healthy snack? It seems like nuts would be a good snack because they are low-carb, high-fat, and have moderate protein.

1 oz. of nuts =
• 14.2 g of fat
• 6g of protein
• 6.1g of carbs
• 3.6g of fiber
• 2.5g of net carbs

The problem with having nuts as a snack is the word “snack.” I believe consuming snacks is never a good thing. Snacking is bad because it stimulates something called GIP.

A few things to know about GIP:
• It stimulates insulin
• It stimulates fat accumulation
• It stimulates appetite

This is why intermittent fasting is so vitally important not just for your weight but for your overall health. It’s fine to consume nuts. Just be sure to have them with a meal or right after a meal—not as a snack.

Should be titled: “Why snacking isn’t a healthy habit”

I remember when we were told it was healthy to have about six small meals a day, lol.

I beg to differ here.. Based on my own experience.. I lost a lot of weight by constantly snacking on "raw, organic, unsalted" nuts! Again "raw, organic, unsalted" are the important key factors here.. I really don't know how but I am sure science is not there yet to truly understand all the micro-connections between the sub-elements of any food chemistry.. Logically in many topics science has this arrogant tendency they figured out everything where in reality it is just the tip of the iceberg.. In my case I am guessing nuts protected me from eating a lot of junk food and they also dimmed my hunger that otherwise would force me to eat bigger portions.. Science constantly isolates food to make a point but humans live in a chaotic environment where all these elements mix and interact with each other.. That makes it difficult or even almost impossible to claim 1+1 equals 2.. No.. Mother nature doesn't work that way.. Peace.. Out..

I was given a container of nuts for the holidays. I ate them at my desk feeling all happy for someone thinking of me, then the pain and discomfort followed. I didn't sleep well for two nights. Lesson learned; eat with a meal not as a snack.

Nuts are in fact very healthy. Insulin isn’t our enemy. Insulin spikes and *elevated* insulin is the enemy. And yes I eat low carb and have for several years.

I was introduced to Keto concepts the summer of 2019. At the time, I weighed 215 lbs. I was eating kind of a "paleo/atkins" diet. So I was pretty lo-carb. The little keto introduction I got convinced me I needed to make two small changes. First, was to fast all day. I was in the habit of eating a small snack of nuts for lunch. I stopped that. The other was on mornings when we didn't have time to fix breakfast (usually meat and eggs), my wife and I would eat a couple of yogurt cups. We replaced eating yogurt with having a "continental style" breakfast of charcuterie and hard-boiled eggs. In just a couple of months, I lost 25 lbs. Those were the only two adjustments we made to our diet.

New fan. New to IF. I have eaten every two hours since I was a small child. Over last few weeks I have changed this and wow I feel much better. No longer driven and ruled by food cravings. I now eat two meals in a five hour window and fast the rest of the time.

LOVE this! I've heard Dr. Berg say NO SNACKING many times in other videos but this one FINALLY explains why nuts are a slippery slope for most people and the science behind it. Even other keto 'experts' perpetuate our desire to snack by offering alternatives to chips and power bars and ice cream. I prefer to just keep my diet simple and pig out on all kinds of meat, eggs, butter and vegetables during mealtime only. A couple times a week I include walnuts or almonds or pecans with my Berg Monster Salad. The title of this video is about nuts but maybe we need another one with the title DO NOT SNACK! I used to grab a handful of nuts or seeds (pumpkin, sunflower) whenever I went thru the kitchen. Now, I eat very healthy, large two meals a day, NO SNACKING between. My belly fat is disappearing, losing weight and I feel satisfied.

For me, this is officially going too far. I like to fast most days, 18:6, but don't take away snacks!
Guys, we have one life and with every step on my journey learning about fasting it looks more and more miserable. It's not practical! Food is meant to be enjoyed and there are reasonable ways to live a healthy life and still fast and still be culinarily-social. Man, it's extreme and in a few years are we going to look back at this the way we see the Atkins and whatever other fad??

And before you come at me with your internet pitchforks, everybody is free to do what they like and what works for them but I am against anything that is not sustainable and as restrictive as this. It's like orthorexia, very easy to get obsessed.

Try adding mixed nuts to a salad. Replacement to bread croutons. Gives a stratifying crunch and lasting satiation of hunger.
