In this video, Dr. Berg talks about high blood glucose while in ketosis. When you do a healthy ketogenic plan and intermittent fasting, you are lowering insulin.

Insulin suppresses blood sugars but insulin resistance is still there. Lower amounts of insulin and insulin resistance cause the blood sugar to spike a little bit higher while you are still in ketosis.

Reasons for Higher Sugar While on Keto:
• Excessive Protein
• Carb Creep
• Frequent Meal
• High Cortisol – Stress

This video was so helpful for me. I just took my ketone and glucose measurement and was very confused about a 1.5 ketone and 114 blood glucose reading. I've been on keto for about a month and this is the highest ketone reading I've gotten thus far, but the high bc worried me a bit so thanks for the information. I'll keep testing.

This video was super helpful for me. I have been on Keto diet for 27 days and down about 16 pounds. I am doing 18/6 intermittent fasting with 2MAD since beginning. I bought a Keto-Mojo meter for testing Blood Glucose and Ketones about 8 days ago and take my fasting measurements about noon, just before my first meal. My ketones are 1.0-1.3 daily, but my glucose has been creeping up from mid-90's, then yesterday 113, today 119. I am prediabetic over 300 pounds. My keto diet has been almost completely clean. It was helpful to understand that as long as I am staying in ketosis that the glucose increase is likely due to combination of reduced insulin and insulin resistance and means that my body is working through a transition and needs time to heal my insulin resistance. I am going to try walking more and see if that helps burn off some of the excess glucose. I am also going to skip my morning decaf coffee with 2T Heavy Cream (Measured) for a few days just in case. Thanks!

Dr berg, I bought your book about 6 months ago and finally decided to read it. In 2 days of reading im pretty much at the end of the book now but I noticed the recipes didn’t have a lot of pictures and I remember you showed us one with colored pictures? And it should have pictures of what our plates should look like?

I already know how keto plates should look like but i was really excited to see colored pics of how the plates should look.

I also appreciate your free videos and most of the info in the book was already up on YouTube! Which is why ur awesome. I bought the book mostly to support you for all the free vids u make, its my way of saying thank u. And also colored pics of food plates but unfortunately there were none😢

What an awesome video! Just recently I went to the doctor for a wellbeing check, and I had a complete blood work done. Everything looked good, but my glucose was elevated at 103! I have never had it that high. Usually it's around 78 to 84 ( I looked at pervious tests ). Now, I just stared keto maybe a month ago. The blood work was done in the morning, and I did fast for around 12 hours. So, this video helped me understand some things. Thank you.

My blood sugars were in heart attack range for over a year... and metformin wasn’t working 4 pills a day.. 5 weeks on keto and my sugars are in normal range and don’t have to take anything

Good to know! my glucose is still reading 99-109, w/an avg of 105, for the past week~ though my ketones are @1.1-1.3~ which isn't super great, but at least I'm in ketosis. Prior to a couple weeks ago, I was still eating "keto treats" every night, about 2-3 hrs after my one meal a day, which was dumb, but I do dumb things sometimes. Live & learn. Thought I could get away w/it, all being in my "eating window"~ clearly not the case, at least for me. Thanks so much Dr. Berg, as always =) Samantha in AZ

Mine isn’t a success story yet... but I’m not giving up! I’ve been on diabetic meds for 18 years and decided to get off of them due to gastric complications from the meds. My sugars are far higher than the ones you mentioned. I’ve been doing intermittent fasting for a while but now on Keto. The information in this YouTube was helpful and makes me hopeful

My friend eats pretty high carb...
We tested her glucose and ketones...

What does that mean?

It's evening, I've fasted for 22 hours (did drink tea with xylitol), my blood ketones 2.0 (lower than all week), glucose 104. Why? I did eat protein 22 hours ago. Never been diabetic.

Than you for this specific video. I understand now that IR takes time so I'll be patient with it.

YEEESSSS!!! I was so confused why this was happening! I've been on keto a couple of months and have lost 21 lbs. I ate a meal with some carbs tonight (testing myself and tweaking things on how many carbs I can have - I had 2 cookies, which I never have) and my sugar went up to 146 but I still had 0.6 ketones. Then, 5 hours later, my blood sugar was down to 86 and my ketones 1.0! I've noticed this pattern a lot lately and have been confused. Thank you for the explanation!!

Thanks doc! I have been doing Carnivore (under 5 g carb sometimes from cheese) for almost 5 weeks. Not a ton of changes, but my bloating is gone and I feel a million times better physically. I have been testing my ketones (~1.9) and glucose (~148) every few days. This is immediately after coffee with clean heavy cream (no additives) in the late morning. I was freaking out about the 148. What is the best time to test glucose and what number is too high after eating?

Thank you Dr. Berg. I've been fasting for a month. No diabetes but I still check my #. Noticed them going UP. This helped clear WHY?
