DIY: Homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent

I'm adding some of my favorite DIY videos to my channel!
In this first video, I demonstrate how I make my homemade laundry detergent using just 3 ingredients + water. It saves money & it works great for washing as well as stain removal. Here is my recipe:
2 Bars Fels Naptha Laundry Soap
1 Clean (New) 5 gallon paint bucket w/lid
2 cups Arm & Hammer Washing Soda (NOT baking soda)
1 cup 20 Mule Team Powdered Borax
Start by grating the soap either on a box grater or in a food processor. Add the grated soap to a medium sized pot along with enough hot water to cover. Stir to dissolve, or heat on stove using the lowest heat setting. Watch it carefully and stir just until all the soap is melted into the water. DO NOT LET IT BOIL. Set aside. Add about 6" of very hot tap water to the bucket along with the washing soda and borax. Stir until all powder is dissolved. Add the melted soap to the bucket and stir to combine. Fill the bucket to about 3" below the rim with more hot tap water. Stir, then cover and let sit overnight. The next day the detergent will have partially solidified into a gel-like consistency. Using an long spoon or yardstick, break up the gel and stir. Consistency will resemble cottage cheese. If you prefer it smoother, you can use a paint stirrer bit attached to a power drill to blend. To use: add 1/4 cup to each load of laundry. 1/2 cup can be used for extra large loads like; bed linens, towels or comforters. This is a very low sudsing detergent so don't be tempted to add more because you don't see any suds!
My channel contains video reviews of products I own & have purchased with my own money. I am not in any way affiliated with any company that manufactures, sells or represents these products. My intent is to be helpful in sharing my own experience with these products. It also contains DIY projects that are for craft and/or information purposes only and should not be construed as expert or medical advice.

I just tried my laundry soap out and I’m definitely satisfied! I washed towels on cold water and my towels smell better then using tide free…they smell clean without a scent!
thank you for this video!

I used this recipe on a load of 6 pair of jeans my son wore working on greasy dirty cars and trucks. They came very clean and smelled good too. There was some staining, but the jeans were years old! I've also used it for delicates. But I've never tried on baby clothes.

I have been using this recipe for about 6 months and i will never go back to store bought soap. I actually tripled the recipe and made 5 gallons of a super concentrate. I have a wide mouth gallon jug that when empty i put 2.5 cups of the concentrate in the jug and fill the rest with water then blend with my stick blender that i use when i make lye soap. I turned my friend on to this but he adds 2 cups of oxy powder to it. Not oxy detergent but the plain oxy powder. It does wonders at cleaning his work clothes. You really cant go wrong with it. I take every opportunity possible to eliminate unnecessary chemicals dyes and perfumes from my life. This recipe seems to clean better smell better is not as harsh on colors or even sensitive skin.

I saw where someone used a immersion blender to emulsify to get that creamy texture. I had made some homemade detergent that had separated. So I equalky distributer the separated parts into 2 quart jars and used the stick blender. WORKED GREAT and doesn't look like it's going to separate at all. I use 1 or 2 heaping TB per washload in HE front load machine.

I made this today, first time, and it was waxy and gummy and horrible. I got the recipe from EHow. I found out how to fix it and now have the consistency of what you just showed us. My recipe before I found your channel today is 1 cup each of borax and washing soda and the entire bar of Fels with 10 cups of water to melt the soap. After soap is melted and borax and washing soda are mixed in, I then added an additional five quarts of hot water. I didn't make quite the five gallons but probably should have, It has the consistency of what you showed up and that was more valuable than anything because I was doubting what I had made. When can I transfer this to my pretty glass container for my laundry room shelf? I found your channel today looking for validation on what I had made. Should I dilute more or use as is?

How about filling your empty old laundry soap containers with this liquid halfway? Then add an extra cup or two of water to thin it a bit?

Hello! I have made something similar but kept it powdery. It is all mixed together. Am I able to just pour it all into hot water to turn it into a liquid washing soap or is it to late?

I love this but I constantly have to keep mixing it with a drill and a paint mixer because after a day it gets sick and clumpy and then when I mix it it is nice and smooth is there anything I can do to stop it from clumping in the bucket
