Homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent Recipe

Becky starts by answering some questions about homemade liquid laundry detergent. Then she shows you how to make it. First you start by grating the whole bar of zote into the 5 gallon bucket. Then you add 2 gallons of hot water and stir until the zote shavings dissolve. Then you add 3 more gallons of hot water to the bucket. Put the lid on and wait 24 hours.

This makes a double strength soap, so before you use it, fill your gallon jug half way with water then fill the other half with your liquid laundry detergent. Give it a shake and it's ready to use.

Hello. I'm Mexican and Zote soap (Jabón Zote) has been used for generations and generations (especially, washing baby clothes and cloth diapers). I'm happy to see how useful this soap is in other countries. P.S.: The white one leaves your white clothes super white and clean. 😀

25 years ago, when I was living in Mexico, I used to wash my clothes by hand (sometimes in the river) using Zote.

Ps: we also use this soap for floors (1Tbsp in a large bucket), general all purpose cleaner (about 1tsp in 1/4 gallon) and dish soap (1 part vinegar, 1 part water, 1 part soap)... works great for basically everything!
Hubby even uses it to wash the car

I made this about a year ago give or take I just finished up my first batch and I feel like I can give a good review of it now. I think it works really well. I have two teen boys who get really dirty one works at a mechanics shop cleaning lots of greasy things the other one practically lives in the woods lol. It works well on thier clothes. But it also doesn't irritate my skin or my daighters skin and we are both sensitive! Also I noticed my towels have never been softer and they feel so fluffy. And the biggest change I have noticed has been in my machine itself I use to have to clean my machine quite often because it always developed a smell after a week or two ( that's using tide by the way) my machine is so clean all the time and I havnt had the smell come back since I started using this. I would recommend

Good morning Becky and all you do it yourselfers.
I wanted to let you know that I just made my second batch of laundry soap per Becky’s recipe....however I didn’t wait until the next day to finish. While it was still warm I poured it into containers half full, warmed more water and filled the containers to the top. This morning the laundry soap is the perfect consistency. Saved me from having to do anything today. Perfect, on to other productive things. Stay safe and have a wonderful day.

I just made this, can’t wait to use it. I grated my soap up in a food processor, then when it came time to stir, I put my paint stirrer into my cordless drill and had all the soap dissolved in no time. Thank you for sharing this recipe for laundry detergent.

This is the BEST laundry soap ever! My clothes get SO clean and don't have that strong perfumey smell like they get with some detergents! Thanks Becky! You're AMAZING!

I'm about 4 years late to your game but I keep coming back to this recipe. It's the simplest recipe with the best bang for your buck. I have four dogs and they are elderly which we now use washable pee pads that are huge. This truly washes animal stuff like magic.

I've been making your laundry detergent for about a year now. Love it! Will never go back to store bought. Saves money and it's fun to make!

Our walmart has pre-grated zote soap :) otherwise, use food processor for speed.I wait till it cools to add fragrant oils etc. Love making my own soap! One bottle of cheap hair conditioner with 1 cup of vinegar and 4 cups of distilled water makes the fabric softner - works awesome! Thanks Becky!

I love Zote. I even use it as body soap. Growing up in Mexico I remember my grandmother and aunts using zote specially to wash baby clothes . My grandma would boil water and then melt the soap in a huge pot. Afterwashing your video I might just start using it to wash my clothes.. Thanks

you can find "Jabon Zote" for 59 cents for 200g bars at any Mexican grocery store.

Been using this soap for almost a year and my husband and I love it! My sister tried it out on her daughter’s clothes (a very sporty and active girl who has no qualms about getting dirty and sweaty) and she was just blown away at the results. I just want to thank you for sharing this video it’s has changed my laundry life for the better.

I have to say that I tried this without Borax....I only used water and zote and after 25+ loads I can say that I will not be buying brand name laundry soap ever again! This simple recipe is working great for my family.

FYI, you can chop up the zote soap and microwave it. It becomes fluffy like cotton candy, and when its cool, it crumbles to a fine powder.

I love how Becky keeps it so Gangsta! She could easily edit out the moments she goes off on the camera man but she's honest about homesteading life instead. It's not all puppies and rainbows, sh- gets real! #GangstaHomesteading #BeckyKeepsitReal
