Here is my tutorial on how to make homemade laundry detergent. My family and I have been using this for years and it works really well. Please know you can add more baking soda or laundry booster if you like. Whatever works best for your family. Most of the items can be found at a local hardware store, Amazon or grocery store. #homemadesoap #homesteadingforbeginners

As a soap business owner, bubbles don’t clean its just pretty to look at. Your recipe will clean I make it and use it. A lot of people think the more bubbles the better clean you get. It’s not true. This is a great recipe that is why its good for HE washers because of the low suds but yet it cleans.

I do a homemade liquid detergent that uses washing soda, baking soda, castile soap and essential oils (do not have to use) plus water. Makes 2 gals. No grating needed. I agree with you. So much cheaper plus better for us & environment.

So much easier to use and store withou liquid. I air dry the bar soap (zote/fels naptha) then cut into chunks and place in food processor with baking soda and whiz until it's a fine powder. The powder combination dissolves easily in the wash. I made 5 gallons 5 years ago and still have not run out. Love, love, love it.

very good video!! I too have been doing the same thing with zote soap and borax for years. I prefer to add the borax into the bucket instead the stock pot. And also being very old fashion as I am, have an old baby high chair next to washer for the 5 gallon bucket to sit on. Fill the bucket just over half way adding water. Next day or so, mix up with my hand and add little more water.
Works out great, keep a plastic cup in the bucket for scooping. A whole bucket for me cost about $3.00

Thank you for sharing, I have neer even heard of 'ZOTE' soap. I also read this on another soap making vid in the comments, hope it saves you even more..:-} You can make your own washing soda. Spread baking soda on a shallow sided cooking sheet. Place in a 200° oven, stirring occasionally. When it turns gray, it will have converted to washing soda

I like the idea of storing the soap in mason jars. Typically I use empty food grade gallon containers but those contain eventually fail and start leaking. I’ve learned to regularly check for leaking containers but with the jar method my problem should be resolved. Thanks!

Just made this waiting to see how it turns out.. hoping for the best! My daughters had so much fun with grating and touching the zote, mixing, pouring etc... teaching them about using natural products ❤

I use the same ingredients you do, except I make powdered detergent (no water) and, as someone else said, I grind 2 bars of Zote in my food processor with some borax to keep it from sticking together. Also add a cup or so of oxy-clean and/or Biz for good stain removal. I just mix it up and keep it in a pail. I timed it once and it takes less than 15 minutes to make 6 months worth.

I thought you end up with a concentrate (GElled form) and you pour in half the gel halfway up in the gallon jug, and then thrn gfill the rest with water and cap it and shake it to mix....1/2 cup per load. SHake jug before using. So many versions of this. I found that it was gentler on my clothes, but that it does a great job removing stains (If you have a bad stain, you can brush some of the gel into the stain and let it stand for a few minutes.

I made a batch, I do like it, but it doesn't cut grease as well as I like it too, so I added 5oz. of sodium hydroxide mixed with 12oz. of water to the batch after it cooled down.
