The Best Homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent Recipe (around 13 Cents per Gallon!)

Показать описание
With Only 3 ingredients besides water, you can make detergent that is every bit as effective as the $10 per gallon version you get at the store. Give each gallon it's own personality with your essential oils (I use 20-40 drops per gallon) and enjoy saving hundreds of dollars over the course of the year!

As I say at 6:57, I mix 5 gallons up in the bucket you see in the video. Then I distribute it into 10 - 1 Gallon jugs. (I fill each jug 1/2 full) Then I fill them the rest of the way up with warm water and shake to mix. This makes a total of 10 Gallons.

I have an HE front loader. I use 1 cup per average load.

(Often these will be found at your local store more cheaply)

***I purchased all my ingredients regular price, at Wal-mart: $.88 for the Zote & $3.79 for the Borax and Washing Soda. Prices will vary everywhere.***

UPDATE: I am sorry if these products are not as inexpensive where you live. Where I live in Tennessee as of September 2019, the full price for a box of Borax is now about $6, Washing Soda is about $6 and Zote is still 88 Cents. I use the whole box of Zote. I use 1 Cup of each of the Borax and Washing Soda. I state at 7:00 in the video that I FILL the 5 Gallon bucket with hot water and stir in these ingredients before distributing it into the jugs the next day. (I should also say that the next morning it is often super thick and will need a thorough stirring (or squishing with your hands like I do!)).

The final product for me, comes out like this: 80 Cents worth of Borax, 80 Cents worth of Washing Soda, and 88 Cents worth of Zote. That is still less than 25 Cents per gallon. Even if the cost were double or triple it would be worth it.
The ingredients of Zote are shown in the video. There are no true "Chemicals" in Borax although it is all natural and has chemical properties. I DO use this in my HE front load washing machine. 1 Cup per medium sized load in hot water. I use White Vinegar as the rinsing agent.

I hope this helps you. Please be kind. I read every comment, and though most are constructive, some are so hurtful that they almost take my breath away. If you have a better recipe, use it! Make a video for us and we just may join you using it! Thank you and have a wonderfully blessed day! :)

I've been using this same recipe for over 10 years and it is just great. Kind of a pain in the butt to make, but 10 gallons lasts me almost 2 years - a man alone. I love the idea of the already flaked Zote (Zoe-Tay, like coyote). That's what I'll use next time. Thank you. You're great.
A little advice - for long term storage of Boraxo & Washing Soda - transfer the powders into air tight containers. Otherwise, they'll absorb moisture from the air and turn into rocks!

Wow, great video. I am pleased to see a woman who not only gets it but trusts in the Lord. Keep them coming.

I made cold process soap for years. Also had a business selling over 20 kinds. I would highly suggest in place of regular tap water to use distilled water. Tap water has more chemicals, and it may turn your soap rancid much faster. It definitely does that for bar soap. The cleaner the better in my opinion.

Wow Christa, I watched this video several years ago (~3-4) and I'm so glad I got those forever ingredients back then 'cause now the prices on all of them have gone to the moon. I just checked the price of Zote on Amazon and the flakes are 15.90 for two boxes.
Thank you for your truly valuable videos that help save us money, potentially save the lives of friends and family and for continually encouraging us to maintain a Christ driven life of grace, joy, mercy and love. Jesus is our ultimate Savior and it is in His mighty name we give thanks and blessings to all. Shalom

Can’t understand why some people would make a negative comment about any of your videos! You do such a wonderful job with them. Thank you!

I use 1 cup of vinegar, 1 cup of Borax and 1 cup of soda. Clothes smells great and is so clean. The bonus is that my skin is not absorbing countless chemicals.

Krista, you have one of the MOST practical channels on YouTube for when it comes to prepping. My wife and I take up the notepad more often for your vids than all the others we watch combined. You truly have found the "meat" of prepping and surviving as history has shown us we are likely to encounter. In many ways, you bring back so many of the things that I learned from my grandparents when they had to survive the Great Depression. And in many regards, I think how people made it through the Great Depression is as good of a description for what you present as any, although DON'T CHANGE PREPSTEADERS! You own it, rock with it. Blessings to you, your family, and your efforts and if you ever find yourself in the Tri-Cities, let us know, we'd love to meet you and show you around. Regards...

this is almost the same recipe that I've been using for years. our extended family has come to depend on me making laundry soap for everyone. My kids, who usually poo pooh on Dad's prepping projects, show up at our door with their empty laundry jugs looking for more. I've upped the washing soda and Borax tho to a cup and a half each and use either Lavender or lemon essential oils for "flavor". My final process is a little different as well. I take my final 5 gallon batch and divide it into two 5 gallon buckets equally and top them off with additional water stirred in to let it sit over night. In the morning when the soap has congealed on top I take my cordless drill with a long paint stirring wand (because this is the manly part that requires power tools) and just whip the whole thing up for a couple of minutes to fully incorporate everything. I then pour it into recycled bleach jugs labeled with what it is, "Liquid Laundry Soap, Shake Vigorously before use", and the appropriate proportions for load sizes. The first time I did this I used recycled milk jugs. that didn't work out too well. the soap lasts us about a year and some of the jugs dissolved. what a mess. so we switched to chemical grade containers over food grade.

Keep It Simple Saints. (KISS) I divide the dry ingredients into 5 portions. (5 mushroom jars) I pour a jar into a pot and fill with 2 quarts hot water from the faucet. It dissolves fast, you don’t need a stove. I add this to 2 more quarts water, and I have my gallon of laundry soap. Add the essential oils of your choice. It cleans well and we smell nice. Life is good. Good video – thank you.

This was fantastic! You are so helpful and sweet; I cannot see anyone in their right mind leaving negative or hurtful comments. God bless you, Christa!!

I really enjoyed watching your video. I have become much more of a conservative person since my job of 15 years shut down. I have been shopping at the Dollar Tree, couponing, as well as doing the homemade cleaners and such. I will try your version using the ZOTE flakes. Don't know what it was, but your version seems to be so quick and easy to make. Loved your Bible verse at the end.

"By hand emergency washing machine" lol.... I'm the crazy neighbor who willingly washes all my laundry by hand. Oddly enough i not only save 50 bucks a month but i get exercise, i get done faster and my clothes are so much cleaner and have never smelled so good! Thanks for the recipe, I'll be trying this! God bless!

I have made my own laundry soap for 3 years now I make a batch and it last just under a year for my family! Distilled water is the way to go… pure, clean, much more healthy soap then the store sells!

My biggest problem is finding sent-free detergents. This gives me that choice of creating a laundry detergent that doesn’t aggravate my allergies. Thank you.

Borax is mined in the Mojave desert. The main rd that leads to it is called Twenty Mule Team Rd.
Love your recipe!

This is the first YouTube video about cleaning products I've ever seen with so many MALE watchers / reviews. Christa you could sell anything!! Your videos are great. I agree with the men that you are beautiful but you also present your material well and to the point. I like that. There are some that talk too much and go off topic and you can't figure out what they're trying to say. Good Job. I also like that you are a Christian and proud of it. I watch a gardening channel called Hollis & Nancy's Homestead and they are also Christians and proud. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

My household (my parents, my siblings and I) are a family of 8, and i just told my mom that we should try this out. She is really open to the idea and although we might use a different recipe, it will be so cost effective, and the citronella property in the soap is definitely what we’re looking forward to! -love from Canada! :)
