In this video, we’re going to talk about low blood pressure and POTS.

POTS stands for postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. This is a condition where your blood pressure drops when you go from lying down to standing up. It also causes your heart rate to increase.

Symptoms of POTS include:
• Dizziness
• Lightheadedness
• Fatigue
• Nausea
• Blurred vision
• Loss of vision
• Shakiness
• Fainting

Your blood pressure should normally be around 120 (systolic)/80 (diastolic). Hypotension is when your blood pressure level is below 90 (systolic)/60 (diastolic).

As a side note, when people go into shock, this causes your blood pressure to lower. Shock can be caused by being overheated, overtraining, or taking certain medications.

What causes POTS? There are several possibilities.

1. Not enough blood in your body:
• Internal bleeding
• Anemia (often due to low iron)
• Low sodium and dehydration
• Diuretics
• Vomiting and diarrhea

Those on a Healthy Keto diet often lose a lot of sodium at first. To counteract this, you can consume more salt.

2. Autonomic nervous system dysfunction:
• Adrenal issues
• Vitamin B1 deficiencies
• Can be caused by defined carbs, sulfites, malabsorption, keto, and stress
• Vitamin D deficiency

If you have low blood pressure or POTS, the best things to do are:
• Increase sodium
• Get more vitamin B1
• Take vitamin D3

This is one of the best videos I’ve seen. So much talk about reducing salt and drinking more water yet not acknowledging that we need salt. Thank you Dr Berg. I’m not on a keto diet but I love your videos.

My 88 yr old father had this issue. Got him off his BP med with his doctor's help, started him on vitamin D and nutritional yeast, increased his salt intake. He's doing great.

I damaged my spine in a minor unnoticeable way when I was a kid, and now because of the vagus nerve system, my heart slowly crawls to a stop if I stand still for five minutes without leaning my upper body weight on something. I also get extremely travel sick in the car and it becomes hard to breath.

people need to understand your vagus nerve system can and does control your blood pressure, either raising or lowering it. It controls other parts of your body too.

I live in the UK. Recently diagnosed with POTS I am under cardiologist. This is the best explanation that I have had for what happens to my body - thank you 🙏

After being diagnosed with PoTS in 2019, doctors offered me a plethora of medications in order to try & control it.
Multiple “specialist” clinics later & no improvement in the debilitating symptoms that occur in PoTS.

Until now, no doctor has ever spoken directly to me regarding the impact of nutrients such as vitamin D & Vitamin B1 & the way they can help calm the side effects of this issue.

I had a test to see where my vitamin D levels were at last month & they are indeed very low.

Since taking a high dose of Vitamin D to boost my levels my symptoms have not gone away, but are significantly improving.

I’ll do a test for vitamin B1 next, thanks Dr Berg.

I have POTS with syncope and sometimes
syncopal seizures and it’s so refreshing to have someone finally address this specifically! I can no longer stand even in lines at the grocery store and every so often it can hit me in the middle of the night-I get out of bed and wake up on the floor. I was diagnosed years ago in my early thirties after failing a tilt table test but I’d struggled with it since the age of 15/16. Passing out in all sorts of places. My parents were never even referred to a cardiologist, not once. Old peers used to think I was doing it for attention and so I was teased and laughed at sometimes as a teenager. They didn’t understand it and that’s okay. It wasn’t until I had a syncopal seizure and ended up in the ER for head trauma, after hitting concrete several times, after losing consciousness that I was finally referred out to one. If only I’d understood it much sooner. Better late than never. For some, it’s so bad helmets are a necessity. I deeply appreciate you addressing this and offering some great ways to improve this!

This is the best explanation of low blood pressure I’ve ever heard. None of my doctors, including my cardiologist, ever explained it this thoroughly. Thank you 🙏

I am 29 years old and had this from October 2020 till January 2021 after being highly sedentary and having an EP study of the heart. This was all until The Lord miraculously healed me in a church service. Since then my blood pressure is literally perfect and the heart rate remains normal when I stand. Jesus is Lord! Praise God for the miraculous!

Excellent Presentation Doctor. I have never come across a Doctor, in my lifetime, who has decent amount of recitation in between words in the right time and small small smiles. Superb. It is not a flattering technique and it comes out of my heart. Once again Thk U Doctor.👌👍

Great video Dr. Berg!! I have been diagnosed with POTS recently at a late age of 50. I learned something very interesting from my neurologist who specializes in POTS at UT southwestern in Dallas Tx. Iron levels are not good enough even if they are inside the normal, but low range. They need to be in midrange. Or you can have worse POTS symptoms. All my doctors my entire life has always told me my iron levels were fine, even when I told them I felt low. Since my neurologist told me to take iron, I have felt better and my hair has stopped falling out. It’s too bad no one talks about it, you don’t need to be anemic to need iron. Maybe it would be a good subject for a video? I bet there are many people out there suffering, not knowing iron levels needs to be in the midrange. Even doctors!!!!

Diagnostic criteria for POTS required no drop in BP, only 30 beats rise on standing. If your BP is dropping, then it is diagnosed as orthostatic hypotention.
And autoimmune conditions are found to be root cause for many POTS cases.

I have pots as well. Some of us get high blood pressure, not low. It's the same protocol. Thanks, Dr. Berg. You're most appreciated!
