3 Ways to Naturally Lower Your Cholesterol Through Diet

Wouldn't you love to change your diet rather than taking a medication to lower your cholesterol? Is that even possible? Well, this week that is exactly what we are going to talk about.

There are so many different things that go into your risk of having a heart attack that you can improve through lifestyle change. Things like quitting smoking, managing obesity, controlling diabetes and taking charge of high blood pressure. But this week we are going to focus on one of the most common risk factors for cardiovascular disease, and that is high cholesterol. To be even more specific, we are going to discuss high levels of ldl, which is low-density lipoprotein.

My patients always ask me how to lower cholesterol through their diet, so I boiled it down to these three recommendations, which are science based and practical, just like me. Watch now to find out more.

Working as a kidney doctor, I found that my patients were often unaware of just how important diet and lifestyle were and how often they felt unsupported by generic advice to “eat healthy”. The home cook in me hated hearing this, so I set out to find a better way.

I began to combine my medical training and love of food, making videos of simple recipes that were based on science and packed with flavor. Instead of just saying “eat healthy” to my patients, I could give them the resources they needed to make a real difference in their health.

Kidney doctor, passionate home cook, and YouTube sensation Dr Blake Shusterman empowers people to proactively manage their health by stepping into the kitchen. The author of several cookbooks with over 100,000 YouTube subscribers, The Cooking Doc® believes anyone, at any age can transform their health with small changes that make a big difference. Based on science and packed with flavor, Dr. Blake’s simple recipes have inspired home cooks everywhere to change their diet, retrain their taste buds, and transform their health.

Great information! I went vegan no oils and reduced my HDL and LDL by 10% - 15%. Thank you.

great information - my cardiologist says essentially the same thing - along with a statin, my lipid profile looks much better. I was reluctant to take the statin but i am glad i did. I think it is important to do both and not just rely on the medication if you need to take it - make the dietary changes also!!! Thanks!

Not to split hairs, because I realize foods high in one will almost always be high in the other, but isn’t it the saturated fat specifically that is affecting our cholesterol numbers and not the dietary cholesterol per se? Thought I’ve heard that pretty consistently from even plant-based doctors.

Wow, great information but I think you need to bring it up a little more up today. I see what you need to do instead of going on and on as there were a lot more vegetables and fruits that you could cover people get really confused about fiber not enough out there information about fiber, which is so important the fruits and vegetables you have mentioned as I mentioned you need to bring it up-to-date. It’s a littleout of date so many other mangoes bananas again, but I think more concentration fiber would help
