Irrigation of Wisdom Tooth Sockets

It is common and inevitable that food and other debris will begin to accumulate in your extraction sites. This is even more common on the lower extraction sites. We have provided a curved-tip irrigation syringe that you should begin using on day 5 after your surgery to aid in the removal of debris. We recommend you use either a lukewarm saline solution or tapwater to irrigate your sockets as follows:
1- With the plunger pressed all the way down into the syringe, place the tip of the syringe in a clean cup containing saline or tapwater.
2- Pull up on the plunger to fill the syringe. In rare instances, if you find it difficult to draw through the tip, you may cut a small amount of the tip off with clean scissors to enlarge the opening.
3- While standing in front of a mirror or with the assistance of another person, open your mouth and pull your cheek out with your finger, a toothbrush, or a tongue depressor. Pulling the cheek outwards will allow you to see the extraction site and may open the incision up a bit to facilitate insertion of the syringe.
4- Advance the tip of the syringe just inside the socket and flush it with the water in the syringe.
5- Spit and repeat until fluid comes out clear.
6- Repeat on the other side if applicable.

So satisfying when you thought everything is clean already then on the second / third rinsing, lot of food debris comes out. Lol

Mine is currently like this. It hurts and seems to be taking way longer to heal than the other one. Also normal soft food like bread and pasta keeps getting stuck in it. Be careful if your wisdom tooth is heavily embedded.

I'm on day 9 of post-op for all 4 wisdom teeth. Had my sutures removed yesterday, and I normally rinse with salt water after every meal. With the syringe I waited to use it up until around day 7.

I did this when my lowers were removed when I was 18. My oral surgeon told me to absolutely not do this for my uppers this time (just extracted yesterday) because I could knock out my clots. He told me to lightly rinse with salt water to clean them. I stopped bleeding after 3 hours because I put green tea bags on them this time around.

Just to be clear it’s supposed to go in the hole right? I am really paranoid about putting it inside my incision.

how can i tell if i’m properly irrigating the holes? it’s been two days of flushing and i have yet to see food particles coming out and i can’t tell if i’m actually doing it right. someone pls help, i’m really scared of getting an infection. is it a deep hole or is it more like a dip where the syringe can touch the bottom? i’m 9 days post extraction and she told me i have to do it for 4-6 weeks

No you can't spit, turn your head sideways over a sink. Allow the water to drip down, have a clean towel or wash cloth with to wipe your face. Do this every time you eat or drink something that is not water. To rise out any food particles, to rise your mouth clean of any substance like milk, shakes, smoothies without any seeds. Don't use fruit with seed, even tiny seeds. Put everything through a sive, a strainer. Even soups, this is in the first two days you will want to just have liquids after taking out a wisdom teeth.

I just went through 8 total teeth removal for braces including all wisdoms, and trust me you got to take
Care of yourself I had a 103 fever the first 4days and was on medication 24, I’m on day 10 or 11 of healing and I still can’t eat or chew solids , still consuming liquids only and having to maintain my mouth literally almost. Every 3hours because of the discomfort will totally be worth it but you have to take care of yourself

I’m confused on when exactly I should use the syringe because my clot does not look stable yet what if I dislodge it it’s been 4 days

My hole suddenly sealed up in like 3 days after the demo. Is this true because I legit can't find anything to shove the syringe when I stretch that area wide?

I got mine removed 25 days ago and food is consistently getting stuck in the hole. I'm really worried about it and the doctor didn't tell me anything to irrigate it. Can anyone tell what the injection she's using?? I really want to clean the gum
