Rotten Renting

The plaintiff rented a room in the defendant’s home. She says the room she lived in was actually an illegal unit. She’s suing for her security deposit back and an overpaid electric bill. The defendant argues the plaintiff did not pay rent for six months. He’s countersuing for back rent and attorney fees.

1. She's ranting that the apartment was illegal, but if it was so illegal then why did she try to continue staying there for so long. Seems like she was squatting for as long as she could to find something new. She seems irksome and absolutely exasperating. 2. He needs to pay attention to his legal paperwork and hire a lawyer who will keep him updated.

And she felt it was an illegal apartment, then she should have moved out when she realized it was an illegal apartment. She just thought if she stayed there rent free, electric bill free, she would owe NOTHING. Wrong lady. Bad case.

I love it when they know or should know it's an illegal apartment and are OK with that and move in, but then bring that up as an excuse later on when they want to get away from paying rent they owe.

I don't feel bad for him because it's kinda greedy to expect to go half on electricity when he's using 3 rooms and has his nephew staying with him. He lost 6 months of rent because he decided to push his luck

I love it when people will move into an "illegal" apartment when it benefits them. But, as soon as some little thing goes wrong it's "I'm not paying rent because it's an illegal apartment".

When the plaintiff says it's an 'illegal' apartment, it's as though she is saying it uninhabitable, but all it is, is that the defendant isn't allowed, nor supposed to be sub-letting it, after all it can't have been that bad she stayed there for 6 months...

Lol to Harvey last comment about loud S*X .. I use to live in a condo that my neighbor upstairs to use to go at it for hrs days straight. I couldn’t sleep. One night it started like at 9pm by 7am they were still going at it. I lost sleep. The finally draw for me was when my kid heard it. At that point my impulse was to go knock on the door. I remember banging on the door and she came out barely dressed and I said “I can hear you!” She was embarrassed and I said it didn’t bother me, but now my kid can hear you. I just walked away. Looking back I’m like man, I had some courage banging on their door. Did it stop? For that day yes. Then they went back at it the following day lol
