Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and Mike (Sean Kanan) face off in the tournament final. Mike makes mistakes on purpose so he can hit Daniel and hurt him, to weaken him. Daniel gets up several times but ends up being too tired to keep going. He wants to give up but Miyagi (Pat Morita) motivates him. Daniel wins the fight.

The motif of a young man without a father finding both success & a father figure has a place in my heart, having lost my father at 17.
