i didn’t realize i had public speaking anxiety until i tried to join in on a debate today and my voice and body started shaking and i got super embarrassed. it makes sense now because my heart raced whenever i wanted to speak in class :(

I have a class presentation tomorrow and I’m so terrified. I’m shaking even just thinking about it :(

Update: I commented this a while ago, but it went pretty well. Our teacher is gonna grade it so i’m kinda nervous about that, but let’s hope for the best.

Love this... it's about getting out of your own way! I find giving talks similar to teaching a yoga class - it's not about you... it's about the students in the class and how to give them the best experience in that moment. And every single time, it's about getting out of your own way, don't make it about you and your nerves - it's about them! Thanks for this reminder. :)

I recently realized that I have this. I thought it was social anxiety but I'm not that anxious in social situations . It's when I'm in the spotlight and expected to talk is when all the fear comes out

Point the focus outward, I love it. My favorite was "be a giver and not a taker." It's so hard not to focus on me. Thanks Riaz.

Talking in class wasn't even a bit problem for me before pandemic. I used to represent my group. But when covid has started, just thinking about speaking would make me feel terrify. Cold feet, hands shaking, heart's pounding, usual signs of speaking anxiety. Because I kept thinking about 'Maybe I' ve changed already and I can't do it anymore.' But upon diving into this video, it got me straight, beating anxiety is about not focusing on yourself but rather on what you are about to do. Loosening up and having fun. Maybe that's one thing I have neglected. I was always focused on the things I thought I couldn't, but hell, I definitely can. Thank you for this video :)

got a 6 minute presentation on french tomorrow, i cant even speak french lol. Prob is not the mindset, but my body, it just goes all places whilst im thinking, it doesnt matter how they think, theyre just ppl too. Lol im such a mess when it comes to powerpoints ehhh

I have a presentation Thursday in one of my college courses. I’ve found that if I start the presentation by asking a question to related said topic I’m able to ground the my nerves faster once I get the audience speaking instead of just having them staring at me during the start of the presentation. I’ll add this is someone who is terrified of public speaking and on anxiety medication.

I agree with connecting with people before hand. This really helps calm the nerves for me personally and helps as an ice breaker.
