Bubba accepting him unconditionally is heart warming. He was oddly obsessed with shrimps but Forrest too, accepted his interest and even shared his dream. That fateful day when he laid down his life, Forrest never forgot his best friend and even provided both his family and achieved his dream. Bonds like these are rare and all the more precious in a world of self-interest.

I love how the movie subverts your expectations by making it so you fully expect the Drill Sergent to dump on Forrest like everyone else in the movie has done so far... And he never does because it turns out that Forrest is basically his vision of a perfect soldier.

And then he was proven completely right because Forrest ends up saving his entire squad. If there was one Forrest for every ten soldiers, they probably would have had zero fatalities.

I was in basic training with a guy and when the drill sergeant asked him why was he here...he said “to do whatever you tell me drill sergeant”. The drill sergeant laughed and then made him PUSH till he got done asking everybody in the platoon the same question lol. I will NEVER forget that shit lol. We ALL knew he was being funny too
