Did You Know In FORREST GUMP…

The ambush scene in Vietnam is one of the most accurate combat scenes ever recorded on film! In the scene, Forrest was on a mission with his unit when suddenly they were ambushed by Viet Cong guerrillas. The US troops were being shot at by the enemy, but they never made a visual appearance. This led many combat veterans, especially Vietnam veterans, to rate this as one of the most accurate combat scenes in history. It was very sudden, there was no warning, and it happened in a flash.

Fun Fact: The Vietnam scenes were filmed at the Hunting Island State Park in South Carolina.

I watched forest gump many times with my grandpa before I was old enough to understand that he had been in the Vietnam War. Can't imagine what he was thinking while watching it with me.

Not being able to see your enemy is what I imagine is the most stressful situation in combat is. Because you are forced to stay in cover, knowing if you peak to spot them, you are likely to be shot.

The Vietnam scene in forest gump and the Medal of Honor he was awarded is based off an actual Vietnam veteran Sammy Davis who took some insane and admirable actions to save his friends and he was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1968 they used his footage of being awarded the Medal and put Tom hanks in it for the movie
