hey guys, i’m a tree surgeon so a little qualified on this. if you are going to fell a tree for the first time, try to work out how tall it is, then add ten foot on and make that radius around the tree. if there’s anything in it you don’t want to hit, don’t do it. when making you gob, only go 1-2/5s deep into the tree, not as much as some people would think. and make sure your back cut is higher by about an inch than the bottom of the gob

So the bigger your arms are the more experience you start with as default this seems like a very strange character tree

As a logger, I've personally fell 30 trees on my property, including a 63' maple. Unless you've done it for at least 4 years professionally. Don't. Stick to hand felling 25' and under. At 60', the trunk can slip, sliding over the stump and impaling/crushing you with at least the weight of two pickups, depends on the diameter of the tree. Oh, not to mention but this generally happens under a second.

You hug the tree first to absorb its spirit and thank the tree for its sacrifice.

You're hugging the tree goodbye. I understand that you have new strange feelings about the tree. Yes, it's a nice tree. It's normal as you grow older to have changes in your body. Getting hair in new places, having changes in your body is a normal part of growing older. This also applies to having what feels like new strange emotions, or finding new feelings about things. Noticing physical appearances in new ways, finding features you enjoy or are drawn to. Desire is a strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen. Has you grow older you will understand the difference between love, friendship, or romantic love, or romantic desires. dNow you need to remember it isn't okay to touch, hug, or kiss others without permission. There is more than one type of love, like love for parents/family, love for friends, even love of food or items, and romantic love. I understand what you're feeling for this tree. It is somewhat unusual that you have been feeling these this way. The romantic desires, and romantic love you feel for that tree is not completely unheard of. It is called arborphilia or dendrophily. That doesn't mean it is okay for you to attempt to satisfy your desires, have romantic relations, or show you love it as you put it, especially at the elementary school across from the playground while the children were outside at recess. I understand that you can't just take the tree home with you because it's stuck in place. It was not okay to punch that 7 year old child. I understand more than I would like to about your feelings for the tree. That doesn't allow you to punch a child even if she was playing and climbing on the tree when you arrived. She was not trying to destroy your relationship with the tree. The fact that you claimed you were making up from a fight over you being jealous of the 7 year old, and things got out of hand and that is why you took off your clothes and were "testing the knotholes". Just go to the ER with the ambulance so they can perform splinter removal...

First tree I ever cut down was almost 18" in diameter. Got cought up in the tree next to it. Took me two weeks to get it down because I was so scared it was going to kill me. Learned a lot on that one. Never happened again.

You hug it before killing it, wow how thoughtful.

This is adding complexity to the matter. An understanding of gravitationional falls. Kick back. Tension and compression would do. I personally could teach anyone how to fell a tree without hugging the fucking tree.

When I was 13 I took out a tree a bit smaller than that with an axe and I thought it was the coolest thing ever 😂

Imagine thinking anything more than “I’m going to cut down this tree”

I used to fell forearm thick or thinner invasive trees, very sick and dying trees, or completely dead trees on my grandparent's property to make stuff with as a kid and even though those suckers were never more than 12 ft tall they could put the fear of god in an atheist

Ive done this myself as an amateur. Felled a 40' tree perfectly.

Proceeds to only touch elbows.

Good to go.

I grew up hauling wood every year for our wood stove. I never mastered the axe, but the only girl I knew who was better with a chainsaw was my cousin... who also hauled wood every year.
