So, what is shock? When you hear people say, a state of shock, that's usually meaning something psychological like they're panicky or they have anxiety. True shock is when your blood pressure is low. When you have a lowered blood pressure it can be due to many things.

It could be due to bleeding. You’re bleeding out blood or you're bleeding internally, so you have an accident and you've been hit and you’re bleeding inside. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean you’re not losing blood. You could have shock because you are allergic to something and your blood pressure lowers. You could have been hit in the head and you have neurological problems that decrease your blood pressure. You could have a heart problem that decrease your blood pressure.

What you’re going to want to do is take a look at the person. Oftentimes they have cool clammy skin. Their breathing is elevated, their pulse is elevated and sometimes it's weak. Call 911 anytime you suspect someone is in true shock. The best thing to do is lay someone down, lift their legs up, and wait for help. If you suspect that someone has a head or neck injury the best thing is to leave them alone and not move them. If you have to move them be very, very careful.

If you're unsure if it's a head or neck injury just be very careful not to twist their head too much or twist their shoulders. Move them very gently and wait for help.

What do you expect in a minute of video? It's an overview, not an in-depth analysis.
