if you're troubled by neck pain coupled with loss of range of motion one of the best treatment recommendations would include cervical mobilization including cervical snags.

cervical snags or sustained natural apophyseal Glides are considered to be one of the best treatment options for reduced cervical range of motion according to the American physical therapy association.

the sustained natural glide should be performed three sets of six repetitions each.

if you're suffering from a loss of cervical flexion I.e bringing the head down towards your chest, stabilize the back of your neck with a folded towel or pillowcase or belt. placement of the belt should be at the C2 spinous process which would be the first bump down from the back of your skull. using both hands gently pull the towel to tension now to improve cervical flexion simply move your head into flexion by performing a chin tuck exercise with a 3 second hold. continue for a full set of six repetitions and perform three sets per day

the setup would be the same if you're suffering from a loss of extension IE looking up towards the ceiling. the movement this time however would involve gently lifting the head towards the ceiling IE looking at the ceiling or moving the head back as far as possible holding for 3 seconds and repeating for six repetitions. again three sets per day

rotation would be achieved by placing the strap or belts or towel at the C1 which would be slightly below the occiput and the towel should fall right below the bump under your ear or the mastoid process .
for loss of right rotation use your right hand to grasp the towel on the left hand side bringing the towel over the ear and chin while using your left hand to traction the neck in a downward perpendicular fashion
