Destroying calvinism and convincing calvinists that you've destroyed it rarely coincide with one another.

I find it so interesting that people get so worked up when they hear the word Calvinism. They are so offended when God is actually being God.
I think the offense is found in the idea that anyone would ever suggest that man is guilty and destitute and completely depraved in his standing apart from God and therefore deserves eternal punishment.
Without a clear and right understanding of the doctrine of original sin and its results we will never really understand the economy of salvation and the role God plays in it all.

Wait? Did I miss the part where he destroys Calvin?

He really doesn't understand calvinism at all, or how those passages pose no problem for it.

We can only make free will choices according to our sinful nature. It’s God who calls us and grants us salvation by a supernatural work of the Holy Spirit. We can’t have more authority over Gods sovereign plan and no man can boast about his choice for salvation. We are depraved and He would be perfectly just to send every man and women to hell and not save anyone for all have sinned. 2 Cor 5:14 “The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God” Our nature is only evil apart from God granting us a new nature

Christ gave Himself a ransom for "all" WITHOUT DISTINCTION (not without exception) of nationality, social status, age or gender, etc.
here in 1 Timothy 2:6 the "ransom for all" is defined by the "ransom for many" of Matthew 20:28. The "all" of 1 Timothy 2:4 and 6 is simply emphasizing the contrast from the Jewish nation only.

Christ gave himself a ransom for all sorts of men, for men of every rank and quality, of every state and condition, of every age and sex, and for all sorts of sinners, and for some out of every kindred, tongue, people, and nation, for both Jews and Gentiles

Salvation is not limited to a particular ethnic group or gender or to any other subsection of humanity. Moreover, that the word "all" is commonly used to mean "all types" can be seen clearly in 1 Timothy 6:10, where the same Greek word is translated "all kinds." Although the value of Christ's death is infinite, his sacrifice on the Cross was fully effective in winning the salvation of the elect only.

If we were given free will to choose God or not we would use that free will to deny and turn away from him every time.

I'm confused. This didn't destroy Calvinism at all?...

God chose "us" before the foundation of the world. We didn't choose him. Why is this so difficult and frightening? He did not choose people based on how they would respond. The Bible does not say that.

2 Peter 3:8‭-‬9
But do not overlook this one fact, BELOVED, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise (His coming) as some count slowness, but is patient (longsuffering) toward US, not willing that ANY (of us) should perish, but that ALL (of us) should reach repentance.

Jesus hasn't returned yet because all of those for whom Jesus died have not been brought to faith through regeneration, some probably haven't even been born yet.
God is not willing that any of the elect should perish, but that all of them come to repentance.

Just so I'm understanding correctly...this man believes that God wants all people to be saved but doesn't get what he wants.

I'd like to hear him say out loud that God does not get what he wants. How could he possibly be sovereign?
I cringe at the idea

Funny thing is I don't think he destroyed Calvinism... Just brings up the danger of intellectual pride that both sides have. We should approach the Very Word of God with great humility always.

“What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory—”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭9‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭9‬:‭15‬-‭18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The word rendered "foreknowledge" in 1 Peter 1:2 is a noun. All believers then are "Elect [chosen] according to the foreknowledge of God the Father." Foreknowledge is something that God, in His omniscience, has. However, in Romans 8:29, "foreknow" is an active verb. In other words, foreknowledge in Romans 8 is not something God has, but something that God does. God "foreknows, " (active verb that could be rendered fore-ordained) all who come to faith in Christ. We ask then, how is it that "according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, " all who come to faith in Christ are elect, or predestinated? It is because God not only knows beforehand who will trust Christ, but even more because He "foreknows" or ordains them beforehand. Keep in mind that in Romans Paul clearly stated that "there is none that seeketh after God" (Romans 3:11b).

Ive been a Pastor for 17 yrs and a Christian for 34 yrs. I was first exposed to the doctrine of predestination in 2009 and got bombarded by it in Christian college. I wrote a long thesis on this subject and I HONESTLY cannot comprehend how can believers agree and defend predestination without any input from the individual. The defense for a doctrine in which a divine and Holy God creates beings according to his image and likeness (nothing to do with physical features) and therefore with the ability to make decisions and set them to be stewarts of creation but that creation (humans) the crown of it has ZERO say on salvation/damnation No matter what we do or dont do, He in his sovereingty decides our final destination. That makes NO SENSE to me. Yes He is the INITIATOR, but a RELATIONSHIP which is the whole point of COMMUNION, which is all over both testaments (read the meaning of the utensils, items, and each chamber in the tabernacle) is a two way street. You cannot have a relationship when u decide with whom, how, when, where, and already decided the outcome without any say from the other party. No matter how is broken down, thats not love. How is that kind, patient, long suffered? Read Jeremiah and you can clearly see a God who SUFFERS the infidelity of his people. How can a God who pre ordained (programmed) his creation feel abandoned, cheated, hurt, and describe his creation as a wife who commits adultery. In addition, if we were programmed and had zero options or say then the word "IF" would not be in the Bible. IF you follow, IF you obey, IF you seek. Does that sound like we dont have a choice? Imagine a person who was born in poverty, never hears of Jesus and when judged by God the person is told that they are going to hell. The person asks "why? I ne er heard of you, I honestly thought that due to the world and its natural complexities that something existed, but you never revealed yourself to me" God response is "you didnt hear of me because before the foundation of the world I chose for you to be condemned to eternal fire" person responds with "why? You never gave me a chance" God says "I dont have to, I do what I that sound righteous, does that even sound like JUDGEMENT?? actually, what exactly is God judging? You cannot judge who is already condemned or saved. How is that love? Why create creatures in your image who can reason but you DONT reason with them. Usually the answer is, "well he knows why"....wow, thank you. That clarifies everything. Then they say that when God sent Jesus it was to save the elect. So, the world means elect? And when God says that his desire is for none to perish? And ignoring that before the word predestined in Romans 8 it says "FOR THOSE HE FOREKNEW". Now, if I foreknow that you will accept me and have communion I can set a path for them so that they can follow and mirror Christ. If I foreknow that no matter my attempts you will not come to me then I CAN RIGHTFULLY JUDGE. You didnt embrace my love, you will face judgment. That judgement will be dictated by your choices. I respect the people that think that we are predestined and pre ordained without choice. I know and have beautiful relationships with people thay think that way but it os a subject that we do not touch. I simply cannot worship a God that chose me and saved me without my input and condemns others in the same manner.

The heart is wicked above all else. On our control, we would never choose to follow or believe in the Lord. Our pride and arrogance is so severe, He is the last thing we would ever want in our lives. The only way that we know Him is because He loved us FIRST. He chose who He wanted to bestow His Spirit upon and grant the saving faith to believe in His existence and His love. The faith it takes to believe in God is not manufactured by us, but solely given by the grace of God Himself.

I believe the doctrine of election, because I am quite sure that if God had not chosen me I should never have chosen him; and I am sure he chose me before I was born, or else he never would have chosen me afterwards; and he must have elected me for reasons unknown to me, for I never could find any reason in myself why he should have looked upon me with special love. The Gospel is for everyone, no one is predetermined for hell. Salvation is a free gift. A gift must be received or rejected. It’s so simple a child can understand it, but proud and arrogant hearts cannot.
