100% what Robbie and Amber are saying! I live here. I am seeing it first hand. Locals who have literally never done this mobilized significantly more efficiently than government. I watched it all play out in real time. The government didn't clear the road near my home so we could get out, good ole boys with side by sides and chainsaws did. I watched, and still am watching, as my town is flooded with average joes, local and out of state, riding atvs on the roads to get supplies to people. People with back packing packs hiking supplies to people. The cajun navy, an out of state non-profit, partnering with mule packers to get supplies to people. I have never seen people come together in such a way! The government is here, but they are in no way shape or form the heroes in these small towns. They are a mere part of the relief efforts, and ya'll it is literally their job to be the heroes. They get paid for it as well, unlike many of the people out here mobilizating to help. Many of them still have no power or cell service, no job and uncertainty about where their next paycheck will come from... myself included, as I am a teacher. Yet the have still showed up for their community is ways that are beyond humbling! Private organizations are 10x better than any bloated government organization! The government needs to just have a relief fund set aside, instead of paying FEMA, and then put that money in the pockets of private organizations like the cajun navy, operation air drop, and local non-profits. At least we the people can hold those organizations accountable. We are stuck with whatever the government gives us with government programs.

I’m sorry, there are 2 of the largest army bases in NC and GA (Ft. Bragg and Ft. Benning). I don’t want to hear this. The way this is playing is the federal government doesn’t care b/c this is affecting poor and working class white people.

The harsh reality is you have states like Florida organizing and sending aid and assistance before the NC Government and the federal government can get it together.

This doesn’t compare to Maria. For perspective Miami to PR is a 3 hour flight. Ft. Bragg to Asheville is a 4 hour drive.
