I’m a 24 year old big male that played football & did wrestling. I am about to start an lpn/lvn program at my local community college. The idea of being a male nurse is great to me & I don’t think it should be a female role only. F*ck that, Be different. I met a guy with tattoos & a bald head, dude looked like a straight gangster. He was wearing a nurse uniform & he told me he has zero regrets of becoming a nurse.

So glad I was a CNA for two years before getting accepted into nursing school! I start my BSN program January 10th and honestly I only want to work in the NICU after working pediatrician home health care per Diem while full time in a SNF rehab facility. Maybe a year ED but if I can land ICU in a nurse residency at graduation I will not be looking back from NICU. After two years on being the only CNA on the unit my back is over it lol

Hi fellow nurse. Yes, you will have to do more lifting then the female nurses. Some nurses are better at putting foleys, ng tubes and PIV's in and are asked to help with those more. Male nurses are asked to do more lifting sometimes. I was part of an RRT and a male nurse transferred an unresponsive patient from the recliner to the bed by himself in an instant. Do not think of it as being used, its a resource.

Retired male nurse here. I enjoyed my job, learned a great deal, however it had its annoyances. People assumed you were gay for being a male nurse. You were also the crane and the bouncer if you were the only male nurse on shift that day. You’re often dealing with a-hole, doctors, visitors, patients, administrators, and considered a threat to the female hierarchy.Female doctors assume you’re beneath them, and aren’t interested in dating you because you don’t have MD next to your name… though you probably helped train them, so they pass their residency rotations .We make good money so it also attracts gold digger women.
