I quit my job in IT. Sold my house and car. Had a mission to see and explore my roots in China and Vietnam. I turned 50 this year and still living in Tayninh with my wife and kids after 21yrs since making that initial move. Not for everyone, but definitely recommended if you're looking for a change.

Exceptional interview. Chris is such an uplifting and genuine person. He found his happiness there in Vietnam. I'm also Viet American currently in San Jose, CA. I want and plan to retire in Vietnam also. Wish both u and Chris success and happiness in Vietnam.

Please remember to do followup interview after every 1 year for all your interviewees because I want to know how they do going forward.

Again, very captivating interview.

I lived in Vietnam for 9 years. Travel back and forth over 25 years. You will see people treat you well because they think you have money. If they find out you have no money. It can be brutal. I lived here for so long because it's cheap. Avoiding the people. People have good experience because they are touring. Spending money. There's a lot of places to partying. It all comes down to money. Im just waking people up to reality. There's a lot of people in a dream.

Just discovered your channel and really enjoy your interviews. You ask brilliant questions which as a viewer everybody wants to know. Chris has a positive and uplifting vibe and doesn't shy a way from any awkward questions. Thanks for posting

I just came back to Canada after 2 years teaching in Vietnam ❤❤. I taught English to little kids all over Da Nang then University of Da Nang (VNUK) asked me to teach full time so I did double duty for a year (I only had a college degree in Travel & Tourism and the TESOL certificate, no previous teaching experience).

Make sure to put a part of your earnings in S&P and NVDA stocks. Take advantage of being an American, because if you go back to America after 5 or 10 years, your friends will have made exactly the same amount of money through investments as you did trading in your hours in Vietnam. This is what I learned after I returned to Canada from Taiwan. So much money was lost from not investing in stocks and real estate. Ten years in Taiwan: saved $120k. Five years in Canada while contributing to stocks: saved $500k. Of course, if you can make investments in Vietnam, if you do have citizenship, go for it

It's nice to hear from the perspective of being happy and moving to Vietnam instead of being miserable and moving to Vietnam! And it's sad to hear about Viet Kieu being paid less than white English teachers. Most Vietnamese people in Vietnam are very white-washed though. Great interview! Keep up the good job!

I really enjoyed that story. Thanks for sharing. You are a role model with your tenacity and genuine character. Your mum and dad have done a great job raising you and must be really proud.

As a fellow teacher (for students with mod/severe special day class) it has always been my dream to have a school for children with special needs in Vietnam. I travel to Vietnam every other summer for the last 8 years to fulfill my itch for the life you currently have. Unfortunately, I am too rooted in Socal with my husband and 2 kids to leave. Chris your story was very inspiring and informative. Wish you both a blessful journey and much success!

Consider adopting the principles of the FIRE movement (Financial Independence, Retire Early). Invest in a good career and working in your home country such as the US or Canada for a decade or two, but instead of retiring there, envision retiring in a place like Vietnam. Your savings will stretch much further in a country with a lower cost of living.

Many of us are conditioned to follow a conventional life path: attend college, secure a well-paying job, buy a house, get married, and start a family. However, for the younger generation, owning a house, getting married, and having children are increasingly seen as commitments they may not wish to pursue. Opting out all or some of these traditional milestones can also result in significant financial savings and fewer demanding obligations. The many paths in life....

Makes sense why he isn't doing YouTube videos anymore...the burnout syndrome and focusing on his own business instead
Great interview once again

I enjoyed how genuine he was. Keep up the great work.

It’s good to take a step back here and there when you’re burnt out. But it’ll always be more beneficial for those who do go through this is to be realistic.

Just more curious about what happened to your friend, that you said died. I lived in Vietnam for six years as an English teacher got married, went home to Cali for 3 years, then back to Vietnam for another 7 years as an international school teacher. Now back to the US for another 8 years as public school teacher, feeling the itch. Very interested in your story; we have a lot in common. I love Vietnam, love this content.
