My dears, at this moment during the family gathering, we witness Sister (Carmen Ejogo) criticizing Emma (Whitney Houston) for becoming a parent during her teenage years. This burdened Sister with the responsibility of raising her younger siblings while Emma focused on pursuing a music career.

🎬Sparkle (2012): In 1968, girl groups and the Motown sound were sweeping the nation. Despite their mother's (Whitney Houston) misgivings, talented sisters Delores (Tika Sumpter), Sister (Carmen Ejogo), and Sparkle (Jordin Sparks) are taking Detroit by storm, and their dreams are even bigger. Their ambitious manager (Derek Luke) will do whatever it takes to make the big time, even if it means exploiting the sisters -- and his love for Sparkle -- for the foundation of a new musical empire.

Maturing is realizing that Sista learned to grow from survival because of her childhood trauma. She simply wanted to be loved which unfortunately led to her downfall 😔

That was a powerful moment. A lot of old school parents don't realize that mistreating your eldest child does make an impression, and can cause trauma. But unfortunately, it typically takes for them to what nothing to do with their parents, or be ultra rebellious against them for the parents to realize that at some point, they have to make their side right. Too much stubbornness from Old School parents that think they don't have to apologize to their kids when they mess up. Then they have the nerve to wonder why their kids don't respect them, or want nothing to do with them.

Sistah told her mother OFF!! Don't blame her; she was terrible to her daughters, especially Sistah!!

What Sister is saying happens to a lot of older siblings and parents need to stop doing that to their children. Babysitting once in awhile is one thing but some parents use the older siblings, usually the girls, as a default parent. Let your children enjoy their childhood.

The mother was a trip in this movie. She should've supported her daughters efforts to make it the music industry. She probably could've offered some protection against some of the predators they would come in contact with. If they knew they had to deal with momma bear they probably would've thought twice. It meant the world to Sparkle when her mother finally supported her dream.

This was a good scene. It is hard to believe that this movie is 12 years old already.

The emphasis on the "own" implies that she did in fact lay up in some 🤮 but it just wasn't hers 😅 which she would have to know is actually worse 🤦🏾‍♀️🤣
