Quick test for relays: Bad vs Good #shorts

Here's a quick test for relays, especially 4 pin relays. This failing relay almost fooled me, it clicked alright, but I had to further test for continuity. This is a quick beginner way on how to test automotive relays or how to test car relays. Although this speaks to Honda relay testing, some other relays with different pin outs may require slight modifications to the pins to probe. See the comparison to a good relay. Relay tested was the Omron GBHL-H71.

I was going to test some of my relays, but realized I don't have a cactus to do so.

Finally someone who checks the load side besides just the clicking control side

I realize this is a quick test, but I prefer a voltage drop test on the relay's output /load side, as a continuity test ALONE may not be conclusive regarding ability of the relay to handle actual load. Electrical "wahala"😁.

It doesn’t mean when it clicks it’s working properly. Good to know 🙂👍 thanks

I was waiting for how to use the cactus. Seems odd to show it and deny it’s use.

I'm guessing the Omron relay is from a vehicle by an American manufacturer.

Best tutorial ever thank you so much, trying to fix my hot tub heater problem and thanks to you I did it myself saving me hundreds of dollars.
The heater relay is bad that’s why the HL code appeared (element overheating)
