How is it wise to fear God? What is the difference between wisdom and knowledge in the Bible? Does "fear" men "respect," or does the Bible actually want us to be afraid of God? In this video, Pastor Nelson answers your question: How is the fear of the Lord the beginning of wisdom?

We must understand our place, we are creation and HE is Creator.

Recently, I had a dream where our Lord Jesus showed me to read the New Testament. I believe that He was showing me to tell everyone that it is time for us to learn what the New Testament is really about and that it is time for all of us to get right, especially considering how many Biblical prophecies are coming true as we speak.

I believe the correct interpretation of the Biblical fear of God is summed up in Matthew 10:28:
"And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."
Decades ago, upon hearing a sermon of Elisha asking God for twice the spirit of Elijah, I naively but sincerely asked God for twice the Wisdom of Solomon. It was naive because I was clueless as to how much the Lord would allow me to suffer in the ensuing years, in part to instill in me the correct application of the fear of God--in part to also remove from my heart its remaining evils, chiefly the Christian arrogance most of us have covering our countenances (Prov.6:16-17a).
The God-friendly, hyper-faith, watered-down Gospel today seeks to turn God into a refrigerator magnet of a Santa Claus Jesus, but so many will one day be standing in front of Him with their hat in their hand, without any defense whatsoever.

I would have never pursued my Father had I not first been made to fear him. All my life I wanted to know Him, but only earlier this year He made known to me the truth of His existence. In that moment I was consumed by fear: “God. Is. Real.” **fear**

Thank u for the explaination. I was thinking of "fear" in those verses exclusively in the "cringing fear" interpretation. Thinking in terms of "respect" and acknowledgment of His awesome power makes more sense. But, another interpretation popped up while thinking about it: think of "fear God, and only God". I could list a lot of things I fear, but they are mostly foolish concerns. The wise man fears only God.

Amen, it’s fear in every respects. Reverence/Respect for GOD. Acknowledgment that he is GOD, he is SOVEREIGN and ALL POWER is in his hands for WE were made in HIS image not the other why around. It is also actual fear, knowing he is the CREATOR and at his word reality jumps into existence should remind us we are finte but he isn’t so he is the JUDGE over all his creation. Let us rejoice, the root of his power is his love and that he is HOLY and GOOD towards us.

They all laughed at Jesus however when the fear and trembling goes on I wasn’t finding it so funny. Praise the lord

It is the fear of the Lord that causes us to say no to sin. No awe inspiring fear can ever do that, it means exactly what it says we fear him because of his holy nature his love toward us but his hatred against sin as well holding these up together we have the right perspective and we don't sin against him. It is true fear of god not awe fear whatever that is which causes us to turn from our sin knowing that god shows no partiality and just because we are born again and justified in his sight does not give us the ability to take grace for granted. On the contrary, it's even more serious for us because we have no excuse because we know how good he is, and if we choose to let our sin grow anyway, he will judge us.

He could squish you like a bug but chose to die for you. All you have to do is believe and love Him in return.

HOW? well usually, we pay close attention to what we fear, in order for possible impending danger/distaster to b avoided, thats how. and considering our food source depends generally on enough sun/rain/proper temperatures etc to GROW the grains/vegetables/fruit etc, , all of which comes from GOD HIMSELF and His gracious provision to humans, its best that we PAY ATTENTION and obey HIM, seeing as how we are living on HIS earth and HE controls the weather, hence our food supply.
