I think the biggest fear I have that has been preventing me from doing my work is my fear of failing to reach my full potential... I have way too high of expectations of myself, but it's because I know I can accomplish a lot if I set my mind to it and stay disciplined. But the mountain of expectations is so high and daunting to look at that I scare myself away from even starting my work. Does anyone else experience this or is it just me?

I think the best way to get over the fear of failure is to do it. Normally when people take action towards their fears they actually realize it wasn't so bad.

This is exactly why I've never understood the logic behind a "failure is not an option" mindset. There is no success without failure. How can you expect to grow if you cannot accept failure?

Im still suffering from extreme fear of failure to the point that that I’m totally dysfunctional and started doubting myself and to perform any task if any.
My biggest concern is that you don’t have indefinite amount of times you fail. People around ( workplace, university, ..etc) are unlikely to have the patience to wait until you succeed. They will get frustrated and then desprate measures are likely to follow ( expelled from university, forcing you to resign, ..etc) That makes me totally uncomfortable with the idea of failing, and I try to avoid being in such situation as soon as I feel threatened by the failure. Very sad :’(

Sadly, most of us live in a society where failure is discouraged in the form of people lambasting us like we are the worst thing to happen in this world…. >.<

But I guess in the eyes of many, especially higher-ups, people who teach this will never be good teachers because they want factory-grown “perfect” people…..

Oh, and I find it ironic that schools teach about great people, nevermind that most of them had failures too and not the perfect beings they love glossing over…..

I have such a huge fear of failure, and dying without anyone knowing I existed. I always end up feeling like more of a failure though because I never try new things, resulting in me having nothing of importance to my life. I’ve been alive a while, and have nothing to show for it. God. Literally whenever I think of this crap I start sobbing, which makes it 10x harder to fix my problem..

this is the best piece of advice i have gotten in a while, i constantly struggle with the fear of failure, i think about what others might say if i fail, i thought that if i failed it meant i was stupid but i was wrong, because if i am to succeed i have to accept that i'm going to fail but through consistency i can conquer ALL

The greatest things I learned and will put into practice are; The Sphere of Choice, control the controllables (the internals) & let of my hang ups (the externals).
Success demands failure.
And probably the most important thing; my success is measured by my ability to show up and do the work no matter what!
