ONE ERROR IN VIDEO! The word on the screen shows "Oxytocin" when it's supposed to say "Octinoxate". Sorry about that!! Octinoxate is an ingredient commonly found in foundations with SPF

As someone with an autoimmune disorder I feel better staying away from endocrine disrupting ingredients. To each their own. You can make it a point that the whole makeup industry is a scam. Do women really need makeup to feel beautiful? Eh, not really necessary. Maybe there’s less waste without buying or making any makeup. Do what makes you feel comfortable. I feel way better staying away from harmful chemicals. I was wearing the most amount of makeup when I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition. Maybe other people aren’t affected. I don’t care. I care about my health above anything.

I have a science degree & have worked in the natural products industry that also includes personal care. I work with chemists, scientists, formulators, R&D etc, . So I’ve known about this clean Beauty scam for years. I’ve have a 20 year career in this industry. You are right on about everything. I personally prefer parabens in my products! All the parabens used in our products are ok just as you said. It drives me NUTS all the fear mongering! I’m SO happy you made this video!! 👍🏼👏🏼 I’m not holding back but I never buy cosmetics made in China! Don’t trust them, know of too many horror stories.

Marlena is the GOAT. The only person in the makeup industry that I trust. Her knowledge is vast and on point and she has consumers best interest at heart. ❤❤

I am grateful for clean beauty. It is an alternative for people like me, who have issues with poor methylation, detoxification and hormonal imbalances . You are right about the quantity, the problem is that these "regular" ingredients are not only in beauty but also in everything that put in our bodies. Making toxicity really high for people like me. Fortunately there are more studies from experts like Ronda Patrick and other doctors who take the time to investigate and public papers about this topic and educate people about parabens or any other type of endocrine disrupters. Clean beauty is more than a trend, it is an alternative for people with hormonal problems.

I don't think I've ever learned about makeup in depth than I have watching this "series" you've been doing lately. Thank you so much, Marlena! You really are a powerhouse and super appreciated!!

Your own analogy proves the point you’re trying to argue against. One piece of cake will NOT necessarily harm you, but the issue is that we are putting on product after product [day after day] and are constantly exposed all day. Just like eating an abundance of unhealthy foods leads to metabolic disease… constant exposure to carcinogens and hormone disruptors is not good. The fact that we live in the most unhealthy developed country should tell you something.

As a cancer survivor all I can say is thank god for advocacy groups like EWG, Think Dirty etc. and regulatory agencies like the FDA and the EU. The truth is the cosmetic industry is basically unregulated and since everyone has different needs and reactions it is truly a crap shoot everytime you put something on your skin. As for marketing ploys, this entire industry is marketing driven so why single out one niche segment?? I agree with you to educate yourself as best as possible and find companies and formulas that work best for you and roll the dice. Thanks for your videos.

Clean beauty having a limited shelf life ( as compared to other “ dirty” brands) is planned obsolescence, IMHO. If it goes bad quicker, you have to buy it more often = profits ( $$$ ) 😊

Amen on the good parabens. I love my parabens! I’m in a group for making artists who want to include “clean” brands in our kits, one thing I have discovered is that I can not use many in my kit because they will spoil and put my kit at risk for contamination. So my advice is to beware of a makeup artist that claims all products in their kit are clean especially if they are charging you less than a $200 dollars for service. These “clean” brands are ultra expensive and you would have to buy them often in order to avoid spoilage.

Marlena, I'm an esthetician, thank you for making this video!! The clean beauty movement drives me crazy. I do my best to educate clients that things like this are marketing scams. Just like the claims of 'medical grade' or 'professional grade' skincare... It's all a marketing scam. I've been in debates with so many estheticians over clean beauty and all this other nonsense, and it makes our industry look so bad to have so many professionals buy into this crap. It is refreshing to see another professional speak up on this and tell it how it is based on science backed facts. The EWG is also funded by clean beauty marketed brands, they twist info to suit their narrative. It's terrible.

Amen, sister. As an OG MUA, I’ve been rolling my eyes hard at this shiz for years now. Thank you for putting this out to the world. Actual clean products would have to be kept in the fridge and would be expired within 30 days or less. Also, formaldehyde used to be a very common ingredient in nail polish ♥️

Marlena, I suffer from psoriasis and you’re 100% right. “Clean” products can flare up my psoriasis in one use compared to non “clean” products. It’s so weird and funky but thank you for bringing light to the issue. I love your videos and have for YEARS! Your transparency makes it easy to understand what you’re saying. I get flare ups with certain soaps that are marketed as clean and organic but it’s bs honestly. Not only preservatives but every ingredient can affect any given person.

I care much more about cruelty free than “clean” beauty.

Thank you! I live in the EU (Vienna, Austria) and as a lot of youtubers are Americans I am amazed how the topic is discussed.
Personally I can't use most of the "clean" make-up as there is a lot of coconut in it. My skin does not like it. And on top a lot of clean formulations are based on oils and the lasting power is not great. Therefore I use mostly "regular" brands.
And yes, wash your face, use your makeup with clean hands and wash your brushes ... hygiene is the key!

I as a chemist (and having worked for covergirl and max factor) do feed into the concerns around Chemicals. My concerns stem from the Teflon/gortex and PBAs plastics manufacturing which many years later showed a cover up in data that these chemicals are toxic and the towns where they were made...the animals and people died from illness. The EU tries to take a non political stance on chemistry. However reading up on Parabens it appears they still could restrict /ban their use as research is still ongoing.

Shorter dates, poorer performance. I don't like it. Every clean beauty product I've tried has sucked. Dior RUINED their foundations and blushes by reformulating to 'clean'. Interestingly, there are a LOT of cosmetic ingredients that are banned in the EU vs USA. Even with this in mind (I am in the UK) the non-clean makeup for sale here is better than clean for sure

It is so easy to get sucked in when someone starts yelling from the rooftops that something is dangerous. We are so fortunate to live in a time when researching is as easy as pulling up information on our phones. Back in the day (before pcs and cell phones etc.) it was so much more difficult to do thorough research without it taking days and many trips to a library. Thank you for doing the leg work for us and explaining the information in ways that make it easy for us to understand. ❤️

I don’t use talc. My skin hates it. Dries my skin out and makes me break out. I don’t use chemical sunscreen either…..stings my eyes and my skin is sensitive to it. Everyone’s skin is different. I’d love a video on talc. Love this video! 💗
