Truth About Clean & Natural Skincare & Is Clean Beauty a Scam. As always, make your own decisions and come to your own conclusions about what skincare products you are comfortable using. Feel free to comment with your thoughts!

This is a big factor to be aware of: Between 2017 and 2018, the natural skin care market grew to $1.6 billion, accounting for about a quarter of the $5.6 billion annual skin care sales in 2018. Methylisothiazolinone, a preservative often used in place of parabens in personal care products that are trying to be “paraben-free,” continues to show the highest rates of allergic reactions, as noticed in the first article I link to.

When I hear “clean” “natural” and “nontoxic” it’s like nails on a chalk board… I wish those terms would die lol.

The clean beauty believers frustrate me. They lack even a basic understanding of nuance. Usually I just ignore their claims about “toxic” ingredients and comment on the substance of what they are saying to avoid conflict. We all want more vegan products and sustainably sourced ingredients and conscientious brand practices but fear-mongering against ingredients and ignoring scientific consensus and decades of safety reports is not it

Thanks for the info, yeah I agree the whole 'clean beauty' label is pure marketing and fear mongering.

The fear mongering is terrible. If a company can't sell a good product based on truth, I'm not interested. Thank goodness we have you to tell us the real deal! Thank you!

And it is amazing how many "educated" people believe this stuff

what makes me laugh the most is stores like sephora have a clean at sephora label, but not all the products in the store meet the criteria, so they're selling dirty products?? the word clean makes me annoyed! lol

The funny thing is these brands claim preservative free, use and list botanical extracts in their ingredients but do not have to advise that these botanical extract formulas they have purchased from a manufacturer has preservatives!

Always felt this way about ‘clean’ and agree 💯 with you! I will not buy a product due to Sephora or companies advertising products as “clean” but I will not not buy it due to it either. I am glad to hear organic is regulated, even though I’m not all about all natural products I do think this is important to those who are. 👏. Don’t even get me started about what I think of MLM beauty companies. 🤦‍♀️. Cannot wait to hear your thoughts! 💭😁
I’m starting to feel like a stalker with all my daily comments! 🙈. Not even sure if likes or comments on old videos are helpful, but i just have something to say on most videos this last couple weeks. 😂. Soon I’m off holidays and will not be around as much, but will always love your channel, like all videos I watch and comment when I have something to say. 💬
Thank you for helping educate me on all things skincare! 👏

Methylisothiazolinone is ironically pretty difficult to pronounce and should be avoided

Love your channel, I'm a new subscriber. So many of my friends are falling for the natural skincare, and they won't hear any contradiction.

Really appreciate the effort you put in to help us learn more about skincare every day 😊

The underlying assumption is that most of our skincare products have ingredients that are toxic (hormone issue etc) that are hard to prove it is not one the fear mongering took place. The issue is demonizing an ingredient without understanding that dosage makes the poison. You don't need to be a toxicology graduates - our skincare products, especially big brands, are safe.

I have food allergies. This also gets very tricky with skincare, haircare and cosmetics for me. I read every label. My daughter will buy something that's "clean" and say I should try it. Then she reads the ingredients and says oh you can't use this. Most "clean" skin products are not safe for me. Thanks for the video.

You hit the nail on the head. "Clean" beauty is such a scam. The term is unregulated. It plays on fear, just like "clean eating" does. I'm all for brands that go for sustainability and fair labor practices, but "clean" is meaningless.

I think it's the Geek & Gorgeous website that states their products don't contain parabens etc but they don't believe these ingredients are bad, they just know that a lot of their customers prefer not to have them in their skincare. It really is about educating the consumer but it would also be good if respected skincare brands would be brave enough to really call out the myth instead of perpetuating it.

I have definitely changed my approach now that I am more aware of ingredients and thanks to you and the many beauty gurus who go into detail about ingredients i personally don’t like or use products with mineral oil or petrolatum I get better results from Shea butter or colloidal oat or oat oil but it’s really my preference I think there are alternatives to some ingredients but it’s really about what the skin is responding too or not responding too I’m glad I pay more attention lol o the actives and it’s placement on the inci list and the price for the active also the cruelty free or vegan option simply as a plus for the product I changed my approach to essential oils big time for years I used yonka Paris which is based on essential oils now I don’t altho I’m not terrified of a cleanser that’s on the skin for a min vs a cream with essential oils all day on the skin

Clean beauty in my house means my dogs haven't gotten hair into my products and my kids haven't left peanut butter finger prints on jar. 🤷‍♀️
