I will admit to, when I was in college, I was part of a group of people who would write fake reviews on several sites for extra cash - partying money/mad money. There’s an entire army of people and underground businesses that recruits folks on campuses and other places, such as on here to write fake reviews. We all knew the products were bad or flawed in many ways, but did it for the money. As long folks were buying, we were getting pay…. Only a very small percent but it adds up. Yes, I’m a shame of it and wished I never did it but the past is the past and one has to move on and learn from their mistakes. In a nutshell, DO NOT BELIEVE ALL OF THE GOOD REVIEWS, please read the low ratings ones to get a better sense of what real people are saying. Hope this helps a few people. 💖♥️💐☺️.

I am so happy you brought up influencers. No one talks about this. I have gotten bored with so many. For example, that sleep and glow pillow. Ugh. I always think wow that company must pay them a lot of money to do that and also make them sign into a long contract period because they keep pushing it. They'll also create a 'favorites' video but it's really just a way to fold in the product they are currently being paid to sell. And these product spotlights are timed as you can tell they will all starts talking about the same product in the same time frame. Recently city beauty did a blitz of paying influencers to talk about how it's creams can correct your sagging jawline and it was 50% off!! We all know its bogus but we all watch anyway. LOL Thanks for your hard work!

Thanks Sarah. I totally agree with you & appreciate your holding that line. As my husband says you “never let marketing in the room”!

"Clean" beauty really pushes my buttons. I can't help but roll my eyes at "clean" marketing as if products that aren't certified by a made up group with no evidence behind it are dirty. I actually use a product marketed similarly and it's "green washed" or "clean" but I really love it and I wish companies would just let their products speak for themselves instead of clinging to completely nonsensical claims to prey on uneducated customers.
I also wish rules were more strict around influencers and pushing a product. If they genuinely liked the product, they shouldn't have to be paid to promote it. I understand people with big influence reaching out to the company first, why not get some extra money by promoting a product they already like, right? Well as a viewer/consumer, it just comes off as disingenuous and it's a big turn off, and unfortunately that kind of stuff has just plagued the community.
Fake/paid reviews should be ILLEGAL too.

The entire influencer business is a scam. It’s all about capitalizing on the ignorance of their mass following to eventual convert them into buyers that they may live off the spoils. The bottomline; it’s all about sales. I always say so. Many times when I see the deceptive game at play I just smh. I am thankful I a discerning enough.

Beautystat is currently running this insta ad for their Vitamin C that basically goes "ladies, if you use this serum, you'll start getting carded at restaurants again!!" and like I tagged them and called them out for their manipulative and frankly kinda misogynist marketing tactics and the CEO basically gaslighted me in the DM. He was basically like "oh, most of our consumers would know not to take that literally." Uh OK, most consumers also probably don't know that he has no clinical backing for insinuating an anti-aging claim for his mediocre overpriced Vitamin C serum. Corporations are known to exploit our insecurities for profit, but that interaction with the CEO was so juvenile and unprofessional that it turned me off from that brand permanently.

I agree so much. I think your channel and @madaboutskin the lovely Robert Stead, are two of the people o listen too when it comes to skincare as it’s no bull****!!! The other one I heard Susan Yara talking about is Dr’s who are all of a sudden dermatologists…when they’re not.

Just found your channel, great rant, I totally agree :) The natural fragrance thing drives me crazy! Why do "natural" skin care products all have to have essential oils and/or natural frangrance in them? They just irritate/burn my skin!

So much truth. Occasionally I leave a review on a product. One thing I noticed is that now when my review pops up on the website it says verified next to it but I noticed that some other reviews don't. Not sure what that means. Some websites email you to confirm. I always try to be as honest as possible because I want to help others. I don't have much time and energy to write reviews, but when I do it's usually because I either really like something or really hate it and I give reasons.
