Hey Ryan. In case you read the comments, in case you see this one, I have a question about you. 
You seem to be an open minded person. Have you always been open minded and that's why you're curious about Germany and other countries or did you become open minded (or _more_ open minded) after you started to watch videos about how it's like outside of your country?
I'm curious because there are quite a few Americans who are convinced that the USA is the best and they won't waste their time looking at what other countries do.

Here in Lower Saxony we had actually recently in our History-A-Levels (Geschichtsabitur) the task to compare the situation right now in the us, to the society of the republic of weimar (1918-1933). (I didn't do that Task, because I had more knowledge about the other Task with china, but) if you look over there, it's frightening. It's not similar, but it's also a deeply unstable society, which seems to lean away from democracy, because the system got so dysfunctional and didn't enough represent the will of the people. So they got attracted to the populists, which tell them seemingly simple solutions and radicalize them to bind them. Also Propaganda-TV-channels like Fox News (and other right-wing extremistic media) tell them "alternative facts" (aka lies) and manipulate them. We have that populists here to, but they are not that big as the republicans and have to fight against Resistance: As the AfD (rightwing-extremist party) had a disgusting conference there they planned mass-deportations of Foreigners (even people which are here since generations) and disabling of public funded media (like the PiS-Party in Poland, which had turned the publicly funded media in a (luckily the poles have voted them recently into opposition)), it was a massive scandal, which provoced huge demonstrations against them and now these little sh*tholes have to fear a party ban (hopefully). I was shocked as I read that donald trump sayed similar things about deportation of immigrants and nobody seemed to care. What he now says, with "immigrants are vermin and pollute the American blood" (I don't know exactly the quote in english), is so disgustingly near to the language here in Germany after 1933.
(But that's my view from the outside, I don't know how you experience all that living in the us)
