"How incorrect am I pronouncing 'Heute' ?"
Yes.

"eu" in german is pronounced as "oy".

Also, vowels are never mute, so it would roughly be "Hoy-te Show"

In Germany, you clap for entertainment, and you knock for informative. So if you are in the audience of a TV show, you will clap to show your support, but if you are a student at university, you knock at the end of the lecture.

I wanna give you a big advice on pronouncing German words. You often drop the last letters of a word in your pronunciation. French is notorious for that, but in German it is fairly uncommon to have letters that aren’t spoken out loud. At the very least when it comes to the ending of a word you are on the safe side if you pronounce all of it.

Me as a German debating with myself whether I should tell you the Heute Show is satire or let you believe these are our actual news🤔🤭

4:40 The idiom to take a page of someone's book is in the German original: "Eine Scheibe abschneiden", which translates literally to "cut off a slice". And the terrorists in Syria were known for their cutting actions..

I am really afraid of what might happen if Trump becomes president again.

It's amazing how different politics are conducted in the USA and Germany.

By the way: die heute show (today's show) is a weekly satirical news program

The show is the "heute show" - today show. You pronounce it like hoi-tae show. It's a really popular show, that airs every Friday and discusses the politics of the week in a humorous way.

Fun fact: Christian Ehring, the guy who played the supporter, is a comedian from Extra 3. He sometimes appears in the Heute Show. He is really funny.

"Dumbass award" is not the correct translation of "vollpfosten" since the actual translation wouldnt make any sense in English. "vollpfosten" translates to something like "total pole". It's a german insult and basically compares the intellectual capacity of the insulted to that of a (wooden) pole. So now you know why the award looks the way it does. Its meant to resemble some kind of pole :)

To clear up the language jokes. The award is a pole as in German a total pole is an idiot and they said "the IS can cut of a slice of trumps teaching" "the IS does like cutting of slices"

"Take a page out of that book" is "to cut a slice off" in German, the subtitles translated the first instance and not the second hence the pun is completely broken.

4:50: In Germany, the idiom "eine Scheine von [etwas/jemand] abschneiden" means "cutting a slice off [something/someone]" and is the German version of "taking a page out of someones book". It's the pun on the IS chopping people off versus the idea of taking an idea from someone as cutting a slice from someone.
8:00: If you haven't noticed, after Welke accused him of being a Trump-Fanboy, Ehring suddenly had a blonde Trump-wig.

knocking is a way of showing respect for an event, like a presentation in uni class or a scientific public experiment. Also commonly used in high school after a presentation due to the "higher" level of education and class. In "cheaper" forms of entertainment like a show or a music festival it is common to applause as it is not commonly seen as "impressive" or unique. The decision wether to knock or to clap your hands is usually centered around of the level of education and etiquette, not as in Germans always knock while other people clap.
