Using Siberia's fighting age people for "cannon fodder" reduces the number of people to fight for independence.

Wanting independence and actually getting it are two entirely different things.

The Yakut natives are a world treasure. Their landrace horses, dogs, culture are truly special and under appreciated. Indigenous people deserve recognition.

The farther you are from the center of power the less services you receive.

The way Siberian people are used as cannon fodder in Ukraine, I can't fault them from wanna leave Russia. They are viewed as second hand citizens by Moscow

there's no way China wouldn't try and take some of that resource rich land just above them if they pulled away from Russia xD

Siberia is too weak to defend itself. Someone will try to annex it.

Mongolia should take a page from Putin and say that since they once owned part of Siberia, it is rightfully theirs. And then invade.

Maybe the collapse of the Soviet Union is still happening to this day. Numerous former Soviet territories are now part of NATO, namely nations like Estonia, Ukraine is fighting for its independence, and now Siberia is wanting its independence.

No wonder they want to get rid of the troublemakers in Moscow...

Siberia became part of the Russian empire before the US even existed!

Local corruption is always preferable to distant corruption.

Kalmykia, while not part of Siberia, is culturally closely related to Asia but located in Europe. Its people are of Mongol origin and it's the only Buddhist-majority region in Europe today. Apart from its people, it's very Asian in nature. Traditional Kalmyk architecture bears strong resemblance to the architectural styles found in Mongolia and the Himalayan regions (Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, Himalayan India) and Kalmyk yurts were influenced by Mongol yurts. Despite being European, a Kalmyk will find more in common culturally with a Mongol, Tibetan, Kinnauri (from India) and Ngalop (from Bhutan) from Asia than a French or Finnish person from Europe.
