your channel is helping me relearn spanish (mexican father who passed when i was young so i stopped using spanish at home) and teach it to my fiance. my goal is to better communicate with my elderly madrina. i was too shy to speak spanish with her as a kid but i really want her to see i'm trying my best to talk to her in her native language. i cannot express my gratitude for your clear and helpful instruction enough. muchas gracias <3

OMG, I just started watching your lessons, and I promised myself to stop up to lesson 10, then continue the rest another day...but here I am, without stopping, lol. I think I'll watch it all until I get tired, lol. I feel like I'm already a "Spanish speaker". A extremely useful distinction between memorization and internalization Danny!
I used to do some amateur acting and to learn scripts, there was a lot of memorization at first - using visualization techniques etc - but after a while, the words would just flow and "techniques" were no longer required.
I understand it as moving from "conscious competence" to "unconscious competence" which many of us have experienced when learning to drive.
Find a "trusted friend" to practice speaking is super advice. I found that difficult to achieve online (there are not many Spanish speakers where I live) so I started my own online group! It works so well to practice regularly in a safe environment. Thanks again!

I love you Dr Evans!!! I’ve been studying Spanish with your Que Hora Es videos and came across this series which I’ve added to my playlist. This video answered my problem. I was so frustrated because I can pass quizzes and kinda sorta understand what is being said but as soon as I try to converse, my brain freezes and I can’t communicate AT ALL! Your explanation makes so much sense. I’m going to find someone who will practice with me. I so want to learn this language and other Latin languages. I feel if I learn Spanish first, it will be easier learning the others.

English is my 2nd language - I'm a native Greek from Greece.
I have spent years learning English, some from reading the rules again and again and some from listening and translating lyrics and watching movies/series with a dictionary in my hand. Once I had a good grasp, the basics, then all I had to do was to pay attention. Pay attention when they used a phrase or having a dictionary on my phone to check out the new word. And I never tried to memorize the word, all I did was to look up the same word 2, 3, 4, 5 times - as many times as it was needed for me to remember what it means.

Now, I don't really translate. Unless it's a few words that are rare in my usage or if it's a complicated thing I never do translate. I just listen and speak English, and sometimes, even think in English, and it comes naturally. It was so self-awarding to see myself listening to audiobooks (about philosophy) and to be able to just sit and relax and enjoy the book.
I hope, after lots of practice I will be able to do the same with Spanish. I know I don't write (and, hell no, speak) English like my native language - but I have become quite confident and I don't care about learning something in English or greek anymore - it is ALMOST the same amount of effort.

You are a delight to watch, Sir, and I believe that you can be the "stepping stone" for me, to achieve the basic knowledge I need to accomplish my learning later - for the advanced levels.
