Ok that’s crazy they can claim the whole revenue. They should be able to claim the time it’s was copyrighted and like 5 extra minutes.

The explanation of the options content owners have was really interesting, thanks for that!

Trisha Paytas used to work with an agency that took all the revenue away from commentary videos that used really short clips of her tiktok or stories and allegady made tons of money through it. I think that is unethical because it ignores the transformative nature of commentary and critisim just to make a passive income without any work on her part. But as the agancy she hired has more strength and expertise claiming content than small creators they can get away with abusing the system. I think it's grate that YouTube has a tool integrated with options to modify the video after you get claims in order to protect both parties but most often than not is the small creator getting the short end of the stick with copyright claims.

As an American, I can confidently say you need more than good faith practices when dealing with corporations. My country is the large-scale example of what happens when corporations are allowed to decide what they deserve and what individuals who don't have power deserve.

anyone who’d interested in this topic should also check out tom scott’s vid on copyright btw! it really expands on this issue, problems with the system and possible solutions, in a way that is very easy to follow

What I find interesting is when they flag 3-5 second of music. Like two-three cords of generic music. I’ve had multiple people say that they own the music notes.

I don’t even make $ and I’ve had 4 videos revenue claimed 100%

I think there should be a percentage of match that a video has to reach before they can claim all the revenue. Like you get the revenue based on the amount of video match or something

Why won't YT let me like this video?

Worth noting that the videos following your tutorials counts as fair use and they could dispute your claim anyway if you did claim it
