This video saved me HOURS. I never would have thought to use a chisel, but it gets the job done fast with no fraying. Thanks so much for sharing.

Wow, thanks!

Worked great on 3/16" with a couple of blows. Nice clean cut even without tape/tubing

Greetings from England. Great! It works on this side of the pond too, with electrical tape. Not as good as shrink tubing but does the job. Deserves more views. Was going to buy proper bicycle brake cable cutters and may yet do so but could only get online and couldn't wait. Thanks a lot for posting this.

That was brilliant. I could have used this knowledge when I was trying to hack through some of that wire rope for a project. Using the shrink tubing... very cool. Thanks for sharing this!

I used plumber's tape and a lighter on 1/16" wire rope. Cut it with a sharp chisel - worked great! Thanks!

Thanks. Your method worked perfectly. Was about to start up my grinder but I thought I’d check a better way.

Ha ha! Thanks! I also tried the first two methods, diagonal cutters and a hacksaw. I’m gonna try the shrink tube method which sounds perfect. If the end isn’t cut clean it’s hard to get it through a ferrule.

Yes!! Worked perfect on 5/8" cable (much faster and cleaner than my saw zaw) Thanks!

Heat shrink is a great idea. All the years I've been cutting cable and making wire harnesses yet I never thought to use it for cable.

I am installing a wire system curtain line. It's (I believe) a braided rope. I don't have the set up for this handy trick..will bolt cutters work? What's that metal piece you had under called? Is that a thing you can buy? Sorry for so many questions.. newly single and trying to learn how to handle it all myself! I do appreciate your time ☺️

Well that certainly made a nice clean cut and I think I'll try it. I've been using an angle grinder with a cutting wheel. Get some vise grips or something to hold one end and something for the other end to make the cable a little tight. A loop or two of black tape and buzz right through it with a cutting wheel, and your done with a cut about like the one in the video. I'm sure a Dremel would work just fine too.

That's why I like YouTube, you learn something new all the time, great idea.

No that's another great tip I didn't know. I have been using the angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. Thanks 👍👍

This worked out so well for my braided skipping rope wire

Never tried to sever it that way. I always used a cut off tool or bolt cutters. Looks like a pretty good method for sure

Seen this tip on Homestead Rescue where Marty cut some cable using same method with the point of an axe, nice demo!

Thanks for posting, much better than the lineman's pliers that wouldn't cut my 1/16" wire rope, and far cleaner than the frayed ends that my Dremel left.
