Unfortunately you destroyed the temper of the steel. Could wrap with tape on both sides of the cut, that's what I always do.

The edit is quick, but it's obvious you splayed the wires out after the cut, because the actual cut was quite clean.
And simply wrapping it with tape is a much better method anyway.

He annealed the steel so I doubt it "ruined the temper". It's steel wire, why would it ever need to be tempered? It doesn't have to hold an edge lmao

Couple wraps of electrical tape and snip the middle of the tape.
