With all the pipe welding videos that we have done lately, we have had some requests to do a 6G speed run. In this episode, we are going to show you proper welding technique to slow your travel speed and manipulate the electrode to make your hot pass fill enough to go straight to cap.

I havent welded pipe since i was 21. Im 27 as of thursday and havent welded but 4 coupons at the house. I had a weld test for AC CORP saturday. It gets bent monday and i believe i passed already strictly from watching your videos. This job is gonna massively improve my family's quality of life. Thank you for everything you do for our community bob. Youre the man, hope to meet you one day and thank you properly!

Best presenter ever on the basics of welding. I'm watching this six years after it was first aired. Still the best.

looks good Mr Bob. The camera angle on your weld camera was set perfectly. on one of the 7018 passes I could see the droplets forming the puddle.

Bob I'm fairly new to your channel and I have enjoyed and learned from your presentations. I'm retired and didn't think I could learn anything new, but you changed that outlook. Thanks for your time and effort. Great job!

Damn you Americans have it easy with your fancy 6010 rods, here in Scandinavia we run 7018 all the way using a remote control in one hand. Bob you are a savage either way buddy, great job.

Thank you Bob. Please discuss 6010 uphill vs downhill. I believe the pipeliners union entrance test is all downhill.

I was afraid I would never see anybody that was left-handed welding, I thought I was the only one.

Being able to actual see the weld burn through the camera lens helps to visually harness control on your movement and what to look for puddle wise, tremendous quality. Great video thank you. First 6G test ever in 6 hours... Can't tell I'm nervous at all huh 😂

For you apprentice pipe fitters out there here is a little thing that may come in handy. Now everyone knows that the take up of a 90 degree pipe elbow 1 1/2 times the diameter thus a 4 inch pipe takes up 6 inches but some fitters have to look in the blue book for"takes up" on 45 degree elbows. No need.Use this simple method in your head, say its four inch.Start out with 4 next half of that and so on.Then Add the second and fourth number.Thats the take up.Example 4, 2, 1, 1/2.Use 2 and 1/2 The second and fourth numbers. The take up of a 4 inch 45 Elbow is 2 1/2 inches.Works for all sizes. Also a experienced fitter know that when you weld a 90 elbow it becomes a 92 degree elbow from the heat.If it has long legs it amplifies the amount it is off in the field. Therefore when you fit it together to be tacked put a wider gap on the inside of the elbow. If you are welding it yourself you know how much bigger you can make it. Otherwise you may be off quite a bit on say a 15 ft run.Now if it is off you still can fix it with heat from a rosebud.Heat up the outside of the bend very hot, them when you put cold rags on it it will bend backwards further than it was before. This is how welders used to deal with piping going going to pumps with brittle cast iron housings to relieve stresses before there were flex pipe spools .
