6g pipe welding test 2' schedule 80 Hot Pass part2

Показать описание

The hot pass isn't always really that hot when you are tig welding a pipe weld.
The term hot pass probably came from stick welding pipe with 6010 where you run the second pass pretty hot to burn out any slag left over from the root pass.

For pipe welds that are tig welded, the second pass is often done at the same amperage as the root....and the goal is to put in a good root pass and then not screw it up with the hot pass.

After the hot pass is in, its less likely you will mess anything up.

Some pipe welding tests are tig welded all the way out. But some are combo welds with tig root and hot pass but stick welded the rest of the way.

i just wanted to say i really appreciate your videos. I'm a student and mainly do automotive/motorsports welding. I can't count the number of times i've been welding something and been like oh jody mentioned that. I just recently got my tig finger and it helped me the first day i got it. It made welding my turbo collector so easy. Thank you Jody keep up the good work.

One thing I have Learned in over 40 yrs of Welding, Machining, Metal fab etc...Do not Get In a Big Hurry! Do "Test Welds on scrap" Get the machine Set Up and And your Position... Set Up...Relax ..think about it ... I need the Tig finger ...I do Big Structural Weldments.. some 18' Tall X 8'X8' And Small Precision Stainless Tig Weldments....Thanks Jody ..I have been welding for Yrs ... But Still Learning...

Jody thankyou so much for your videos and the time you take. I have your home page on my desktop. I am right now a hobbyest more or less. But I am still better than most of the people who show up to "borrow" my welder. I usally end up doing the work for them. And I do it right thanks to you!

Nice video brother...keep up the good work. I can't see how anybody can dislike these videos, they have excellent camera work. I've tried to film this stuff before and it's tough to get good camera angles and lighting to make a video. I appreciate your hard work and the expense that you have taken to create these.

you are the only one who truly films from inside the hood, from the welder's point of view, very few do it but not with your quality...also if you could do a stainless steel 6g pipe stick, it would be a hit, Thanks

hi all..first i want to say thanks jody for all your videos i look forward to getting them each week..a couple of other tips for the test would be tailing off at the end of each quarter to eliminate inclusions and also some tests make you tig it all the way out.maybe you could show how to put the cap on walking the cup with the lay wire technique..not criticizing at all...all this info is great!! just throwing it out there

Bought a large and small Tig finger. Very durable and will not melt burn or shrink. Even with direct flame torch this product just does not change. Just remember to take off when grinding cause if you nick it it opens up like when you cut a rope. I recommend this product it is a game changer.

Thanks for the helpful videos and great product THE TIG FINGER.

THIS WORK IS BEAUTIFUL!! SOMEONE SAID ''WELDING PORN'' GREAT COMMENT!! ALSO LIKE THAT YOU FOCUS ON THE SIDES (TOES) AND THE MIDDLE WILL TAKE CARE OF ITSELF, THATS TRUE W/OTHER PROCESSES AL WELL...GREAT VIDEOS!!

on a 6g tig all the way out, I would rather it be x rayed... because a bend will reveal a small flaw like cold lap better than x ray sometimes.
For stick... or tig root and hot pass and stick the rest of the way, I think the bend test is more forgiving due to likelihood of some porosity on the dead bottom where you have a double start with 7018. Usually the dead bottom only gets a visual and the bend straps are cut from 4 quadrants at around 2, 4, 8, 10 o clock

I think everyone should support Jody and buy a tig finger or 2. Even if you're not a weldor, it will make a great contraceptive device.

I bought a Tig Finger and I use it quite often. I recommend it to everyone who still hesitates. Greetings from Poland.

the asme section 9 code for certifying welders provides for a gap of 1/8" plus or minus 1/32" ( I am going strictly from memory but I am pretty sure that is still the standard) so a gap of 5/32" is permitted.
Some welders like a wide gap to feed the rod from the inside to get the root to push thru the bottom so it looks just like the top of a pipe welded in position.
