Love it. The humility of both you guys, willing to talk differences as well as similarities. No ego, just the desire to teach. Kudos to you both.

I stated welding for a heavy equipment dealership when I was 21 years old, welded and machinist for several job shops where you fixed anything that walked in the door, a few years with med. to light manufacturing company in engineering, one heavy fabrication shop as well as my shop at home. I'm now 64, still working, when someone asks what I do I tell them the truth " I'm learning how to weld. " And that's why I'm watching this because no matter your experience level or your smarts the real detail information that only one welder can tell another is found here. For you younger guys just starting out and you old hands that think you know it all--this is the place to be. A lifetime is not long enough to learn all you really need to know.

My grandfather started welding in the 1930s and he passed down some of his techniques with me. He would never whip a root in a pipe regardless if it was uphill or down hill. When I went to welding school they told me I couldn’t drag a root in pipe uphill until I did it. Bob thank you for showing people the right way might not only be one way.

I'm just going to say this:

As an industrial super nerd, I can watch both of you guys weld and talk about welding all day long. Any student is lucky to have either of you guys as a teacher.

Thank you both!

Not only are you gentlemen great welders, but true tradesmen!! There is no ego, no competition and no insecurities, just consistent learning and building on eachothers techniques and knowledge. I applaud you two, you are true gentlemen and great examples for anyone watching. Thank you for the vid

I've watched these two separately, but together its a trip! Its like two dudes sitting in a bar talking about their... "techniques" ... almost like a father and son thing..

For a minute I was trying to put my helmet on when he started welding Haha.

He's a very respectful young dude. That goes a long way when you're trying to dominate a "world" dominated by older dudes.

Wish I would've understood that a little better when I was hits age.

Hey guys... just starting my endeavor .. really green.. got the basic idea of stick welding.. I’m a full time single daddy to my 9yr old princess.. also a disabled veteran.. so I can only dedicate about a hr to a hr1/2 to welding.. but you guys have taught me so much in a very little time! So I’m gonna keep at it.. and listen to you guys! Keep giving myself and others simple competent education! Thanks!!

I love their energy honestly. They have their individual preferences, but it's amazing to see the sheer love for the craft

I have wanted to learn how to weld since I was a teenager, after watching Bob and Co I am about to take the plunge.

I’ve been welding for 27 years and taught welding for 13. I liked both of your stiles, though different from mine. I prefer to use the whip and pause technique and I always make an 1/8” land, 1/8” gap and 88 amps. All 8’s easy for student to remember. On a 6G I have my arc slightly outrunning my hand and slightly pointed towards the top bevel. I also keep my rod buried, always remember for every 1/8” your rod is off the base metal your machine increase 10 amps.

I learned to weld from an old school guy starting at 12 years old. I got to the point of welding mild steel and stainless steel bases together for industrial systems that sit on the rooftops of commercial buildings. I was certified and also welded lifting lugs that the helicopters use to hoist these systems in the air. I had a different technique than my teacher and the students I helped train, but it was cool because we got to the same place. I taught some things, and always learned some things. How can people give this a thumbs down? The old guy is the master, and the young guy is future. Any time the two can collaborate, it benefits them both and we get to watch. You can't beat that with a stick! Great video guys!
