I was scrolling through and I seen this video and I heard every word you said, I have to say people put me down all my life, that i was 15 years old and i grabbed my dads gun and rain to the nearest bridge and was going to end it right there, as soon I found the guts to pull the trigger a man grabbed the gun from my hands and held me. I looked up it was my father. He told me long time ago that he loves me for who I am and some day I will find a man to love me, now I am 43 years old have two beautiful children and a wonderful husband I cant help but say he is right. Your video made me relish my memory of that night and the words of my father. So I thank you!

Girl, you got me in tears. Thanks for reminding me that I have a choice. I'm so used to just letting things go and ignoring people. But, I have a voice and I'm a human too. I'm not my fat. I'm a goofy girl, great mother, supportive wife, and a kind caring person that happens to be fat. And thats fine by me.

Also, would love to see you try online shopping using their sizing suggestions! I've always wanted to see if they work or not! Keep up the great work Shaylee!

Love this video! Constructive and instructive . Thank you so much Shaylee💗💗💗 I am from Sweden and there is a harsh diet culture and a compulsive fitness trend there and also a low acceptance for people looking different in general. I've experienced bodyshaming foremost from strangers at social gatherings but also from friends and work colleagues.

I am a processor as well. it's so important to know people who are safe to talk to, and in those moments I ask if I can vent, which helps me process my reactions. One thing that has truly helped me over the years when dealing a friend (often they are not self aware to realize the sting of their words) I say "ouch, that sounds hurtful" and they are taken aback, and often roll back the comment, and in that moment there can be clarification of their intentions . When I decide to have a heart to heart with someone who matters to me, I say ' since you made that comment, the story that I've been telling myself is..." .giving them a chance to examine their intentions behind the comment and those conversations have always given us a deeper understanding of each other. And Shaylee..you ARE fabulous!!

Wow! You are awesome! Putting these tips together in one place is a great tool for those of us who have trouble responding to haters. I haven't always been the size I am today, but I've always internalized criticism in an unhealthy way. God doesn't see me the way my critics do. I'm not going to waste any more of time internalizing mean spirited, unasked for criticism. I want to live in the warm sunshine not crawl under a rock because somebody doesn't like something about me. 😀

Thank you 😥❤
My mother is this person in my life. I need to remember that she too has struggled with weight her entire life and doesn't want me to go through it. I want her in my life, but I don't have to apologize for my appearance just because she is critical! I am worth more.

Someone very close to me did this recently. The person was annoyed during a conversation we were having and said have you looked in the mirror lately? I didn't expect that and it was hurtful

Girl, I have been bodyshamed so much in my life. I was the superskinny girl growing up, and people would say to me you need to ride a bike or something. I was always active, dancing, biking, swimming, etc! That's just how it was! Now I'm older I am struggling with my weight, but seriously it is what it is! But the thing that gets me is when people bodyshame my kids, they are more built like their Dad, and have issues with weight, however they were born that way 90percentile. Some days it's so hard because people that shame my kids have been my best friends people from church and family. So needless to say I don't go around unless I have too. And even then people just don't understand. I have understood why some of my friends don't feed their kids sweets, and things for their reasons I just want them to understand us. Although I don't think they ever will. However if I am around I just tell myself it's only for a short while and if they are picking on us then they probably have somethingvthats eating at them and need someone to pick on! Thanks for making this video, I hope it helps many! Blessings to you

Ughh I wish I would have used the ‘stare and don’t respond’ method when an older woman who said to me ‘you remind me of myself when I was younger... atleast 20 pounds over weight’ I still can’t process this !!

I feel like you were speaking directly to me and I really needed to hear those words of self worth and self acceptance. Thank you! ❤

You are amazing, I really needed to hear this, now it’s my turn to apply it in my everyday life. It’s going to be hard specially letting go of some people in my life that affect me negatively but I am worth more. Have a long road ahead to start living myself and my body but I am worth it. Thank you for your hard work for posting such amazing videos and post. 💕

Weird thing is that 90% of the negative comments I hear about my body come from bigger girls!? 😢 like whyyyy? I have two months left in my pregnancy and plus size souls are ALWAYS saying "wow I can't believe you have two months left. You're huge!" I NEVER comment on ANYONES SIZE because I don't think any woman likes that?

If there are certain people who continually shame anyone, that's emotional abuse. Emotional Abuse is when anyone makes you feel less than you know yourself to be. I believe you have to say something brief and sharp if the behavior keeps getting repeated. I'd say something like, "I can't believe you'd say something like that." And then I'd walk away. Or, "What are you trying to say?" Or, "That's offensive. Please do not judge me." You can use your own words but we teach people how to treat us. I grew up in the 50's, 60's and I was skinny and shamed all the time for it. I had an aunt pull out a scale and she made me weigh myself in front of the whole family!!! Now that I'm fatter, people leave me alone. I don't think grandma's or anyone has the right to judge someone else based on their appearance. We have the right to verbally put them in their place.

My whole family comments and talks about my weight. That’s all they’ve talked about since I was a preteen.

These tips are amazing for so many situations, insecurities, and anxieties (not just body shaming).
I try to "remember the source" when mentally preparing. Most of the unavoidable people always have a twisted comment so "forewarned is forearmed". I create an affirmation mantra and run it through my head when I am in these situations. I'd rather swim in a blue lagoon than toxic waste.
I do mentally stutter when a stranger does it though. You know, the woman or salesperson who feels the need to tell you how pretty you COULD be or how cute that outfit would look if you shed XX lbs...
