Are soy foods bad for male hormones? It’s a claim we hear a lot on the socials; but where does the evidence lie?

Thoroughly enjoy the extremely short, to the point information - I highly recommend sharing your sources though, a link in the comments at least. So we can verify what you're telling us.

Thanks for that. It would be interesting to hear something about soy and allergies. Soy is alot of times mentioned under allergen on food labels. So is soy a concern or is it more that our microbiome is not used to it?

in the carnivore scene, they say Asians are more feminine build because of generations of eating soy.

It’s not adults that take phytoestrogens that concerns people.

It’s the soy in baby formula that concerns us.

1) we know phytoestrogens (in soy) will reduce the size and function of genitals in growing mammals. Experimental data shows this.

2) we know phytoestrogens effect humans, menopausal women benefit form it.

3) we know that drinking VERY large amounts of soy milk in some men will cause physiological changes akin to estrogen.

The idea that this will have no effect on growing male infant genitalia is absurd . Why is everyone ignoring this?

Please do a video on soy and thyroid function. This is also a claim from the anti-soy community.

Soy foods are nonetheless high in omega-6 fats. The data I've seen suggests these are non-optimal for someone who wants to optimise testosterone. If that's so, soy foods could well "affect male hormones." It always depends on the foods to which they're compared. A study on low-T men that swapped soy foods for macademia nuts, pastured eggs, avocados, and olive oil could highlight the difference.

I love your videos, Simon, but in my experience, being a woman, soy absolutely affected my hormones!! About 12 years ago, after I'd gone through menopause (at 50), that I started consuming soy on a daily basis - I developed pre-period symptoms (larger painful breasts, weight gain/bloat, etc. just as if I were getting my period, but didn't). I stopped the soy and those symptoms went away. Say what you will, but soy CAN affect a person's hormones. Everyone is different, so eaters, beware. :)

When I first switched to a whole food plant based vegan diet five years ago, I cured myself of ED, and would literally wake up like a teenager within a year! Fast forward to a couple years ago, I switched from other plant based milk to soy milk exclusively from a local store known as Trader Joe’s because their’s made with two simple ingredients: soy and water. I use it on my cereal and to make yogurt with. A carton of it would last me a couple of days. Lately, though, I’ve had a hard time (pun intended) to even get erection, let alone sustaining one. As I was researching on web the other day for the causes amongst the male whole food plant based vegan population, I came across the link, below, about the hypogonadism and its association with soy products. It mentions that, within a year of eliminating vegan diet, the erectile function was regained in the male population. This is quite disappointing as I enjoy soy milk and tofu dishes but, after I finish consuming the remaining cartons of soy milk, I intend to take a sabbatical from soy products to see if I can regain the erectile function as well. Here’s the link to the article:

Having mentioned above, by no means do I intend to quit the WFPB Vegan lifestyle. The other health benefits have been tremendous and are side effects of the ethical reasons I chose to switch in the first place.
