What would your dog do in a burglary? We put 3 dogs to the test

Ever wonder how your dog would respond if a burglar tried to break into your home? To find out, we put three dogs to the test. Professional dog trainer James Remick, owner of Iron Mountain K9, acted as our intruder. He wore a protective bite suit as a precaution. We asked Remick to knock on the front door and then enter the home to see how the dog would react when the owner was away.

People spend the dog's entire life telling the dog to be nice to  strangers in the house- and then they  (people) have the  nerve to criticize the dog for doing what they  have been forcing the dog to do.

I bet my 260 lb Mastiff would hump the hell out of 'em. At at his size you pretty much have to let him finish.

If I’m ever broken into when I’m not home I hope my dogs keep away from the intruder. My things can be replaced, my dogs can’t and I’d hate to loose them. Different if we were in the house, then I’d hope they’d protect my children but I’d still be heartbroken if they got injured or worse.

I once had a neighbour with a very quiet German Shepherd. A teenager not knowing that the dog was there broke into the house. The dog wagged his tail, went to have his ear scratched so the thief continued to find stuff to steal. When it came time to leave however, the thief saw the dogs teeth for the first time and the dog was growling and guarding! No matter where the kid went he was prevented from leaving the house. When my neighbor arrived home some hours later he could hear the ruckass inside, he found a stranger crouched down on the kitchen floor crying with the dog sitting within arm's reach. He stayed there until the police turned up! The police gave the dog an award!

They should try it with the owners there. A dog isn’t going to go for a fight for no reason.

My dogs are only required to detect, and sound the alarm (bark). Then I take over with mister Smith & Wesson.

The trainer was right. Even dobermans, rottweiler or Mastiffs could react like this. Dogs, even the ones that are natural protective do not attack anyone on sight.

You need to train em and then you need to keep training em else you maybe have a protective dog but also one that never could understand if a stranger is a thread or not. They then attack everyone.
We train our protective dogs always so they alarm .. but keep distance until a person of the family is in the house. They then will go between the burglar and the family member proecting him and await order.

Train your dog to attack anyone comming into your house is like giving a blind man a shotgun. Its a thread to everyone.

My dad never locks the door in the day, the joke is if his pit doesn’t know them they aren’t getting far.
Hands down most protective dog. She can even predict my seizures without any training. Standing over me and alerting people when I have an aura

Lucy (pit bull) did an awesome job!! I didn't like her owner saying she was disapointed. Barked and growled at the door. That was a big guy, wise decision - it's not worth her life over a laptop. I want to see how they react to protect the owners.

there are particular breeds for guarding. You should put those dogs to the test

Every person owning a dog expects from their dog, to be heroic and fearless when all dogs expects from humans is to be treated fairly and politely.
I think the owners deserve what they got. You can't expect your dog to be fearless when all you do is sit around all day and take them for walks.
They're trying to learn a different species language for God's sake.
They need to be trained properly. Good things don't just happen.

Love these videos, my late GSD would not let strangers in the house. She was ok if I was there and I said it was ok but she always kept a close watch. Unannounced entry would result in a very scary encounter. She was not trained to guard or attack. I tested her with a friends son who she didnt know. She was waiting at the door and as soon as he cracked the door and she smelled him it was on, he barely got the door closed. He almost messed himself. I never worried about intruders. She was awesome.
I live alone in a rural area. She always had my back. Confident and fearless. Now if a child was there it was all good, never had an issue with children.

I wonder if the owner was in the house, if it would be different. Maybe make an advance on the owner.

I’d love to see the difference between if the house was empty, and if I, a child, was there, screaming as well, if my dog Jenny would react differently.

My dog would bark really load, maybe even a bite.
My other dog, he’d probably just lay on his back expecting pets
